computer freezes

Post by h8newbs »

after my previous problem (link) i get new:
When i play PR it freezes. Freezes once in 1 hour, but without time dependence. Computer locks up, nothing works and only "reset" button can back him to life :D
My cfg:
Win7 x64
C2D e8400 3000MHz
2*2048mb 800MHz RAM
MSI RADEON 3870x2 OCedition
GA-p35-s3g
ACER v233h (1920*1080)
Creative audigy+Daniel_k drivers

In-game vide cfg is medium, aa off, dynamic shadows/light - off

System log and prerror.log is empty.

if you can't understand my english tell it, i'll try to rewrite.

Anything from windows system log (event viewer) on the freeze?
Is your UAC off? UAC can cause a few problems, for PR it is better left off - maybe just test without it.

The menu causing issues might indicate problems with your .NET Framework 3.5 installtion, you might want to reinstall that one

other than that: I am guessing this is possibly a driver, system or hardware issue.
driver: get the latest (maybe consider also earlier stable versions)
system: run chkdsk c: /r for minor system and file system repair attempts
hardware: run diagnostic tools (i.e. memtest for memory, speed fan for temperature)

also possibly an incompatibility to another program (close all non-essentials [i.e. IMs, AV] for testing purposes)

What about the other stuff?
(Temp, background processes, .NET 3.5)

Run "sfc /scannow".

I'll tell you what I told rickjames, who is having the same problems (along with many other people):

This problem is with the game code. For some reason, some of us Win7 users just get unlucky and the game decides it's going to fuck us good and hard. Someone told me what basically happens: apparently something wrong with the code makes the game fail to mention to our computer that the video memory needs to be recycled, so it just builds up until your computer is full, which is when it freezes. There's really nothing you can do to prevent this. I found that setting textures to low give you some extra time, but only sometimes. On Beirut I once played a full game after playing the end of the game before. But another time I played for no more than 20 minutes. It seems totally random, so it's probably dependent of how the players affect the game environment (more action = more video memory usage).

I've tried literally everything to try and get my brand new computer, which can play any game out there on max settings, to play PR, but it won't. Neither would my computer, which used to play it just fine but wouldn't when I switched to Win7. So I would just give up, save yourself the frustration, and wait for the next patch and hope like hell they've resolved the issue. Or you could revert to XP or Vista. That's the only solution until the new patch comes out.

You still need .net Framework 3.5 . It is insufficient to only have the latest version installed.
