Mumble mutes other applications

I've started using mumble again after a long absence, only to discover that with mumble running, everything else literally becomes muted. A quick Google search showed that if I use WASAPI then this will happen, but I have no options to turn that off. This is kind of a deal breaker since I can't hear anything in TS or the game if mumble is on, and I have no idea how to rectifiy the problem. Any suggestions?

right click sound thing in windows bottom right > recording devices > communication > "do nothing" ?

Ah, thanks. Didn't know mumble was considered by windows to be a call application. no other VOIP program (other than skype) that I've used has ever done that, so I just assumed that wasn't it. Thanks
