SKS and Enfield

Post by Riflewizard »

So i like these guns in game, both are accurate and powerful guns.
But it is just dumb that you cant reload them until they are empty.

Its an okay idea in theory, but too often what happens is you'll fire a few rounds and recede back to strike again. And you cant reload, so :
A. You give yourself away by firing until empty and reloading
B. You are forced to reload in the middle of the next ambush or contact

and both can get you killed.

This has been discussed before.
The problem with the BF2 engine is that it doesn't do different reload animations.
Though being able to reload anyway would be very nice. And all the already loaded bullets forgotten.
But this is not realistic as bullets don't just go away and this being 'Project Reality' I think we are stuck with this problem.
Arma PR will help as you can always reload even with a full mag.

You can reload any weapon as long as the mag isn't full. The SKS however, I think that's just how it works in real life, you can't reload that until the "mag" is empty. Just like the M1 Garand for example.

You forgot to factor in the chainsaw theory.

Actually you can.
The garand you can reload by pulling the cocking handle
And the SKS you can reload by swing out bottom of the Mag
As shown in this Video
YouTube - Difference Between a Magazine and a Clip
It's a bit long but you see what i mean with the sks

Garand at 3:05
SKS straight after at 3:27

SKS isn't powerful, it's a peashooter that's less powerful than 5.56

Well it shouldn't be. it uses the 7.62 x 39 so it should share the damage stats of the AK47.
And I know as a fact that the AK47 is not weaker than 5.56

Nope, you can take out the clip from the Garand and empty the mag on the SKS anytime you want, you don't need to fire all rounds.

I find that emptying a whole mag in an enemy is the best probable solution because of the low kill ratio of the SKS. Its a miracle to kill an enemy with it.

Why not give the iron sight Enfield the same reload as the scoped? One at a time.
Or am I being a fool and this is impossible

The unscoped Enfield can be loaded by inserting two clips into it. The scoped Enfield however has to be loaded one bullet at a time, since the scope obstructs the insertion of the clips. I think there was a mount for the Enfield in which the scope was to the left of the rifle, so that this problem was avoided.

It is possible to reload a Garand mid-clip, it's just impractically slow in combat. Same I believe goes for the SKS.

The Enfield can be reloaded without a fuss, I believe, after five or ten rounds have been spent, as the gun uses five round stripper-clips.

regardless of whether or not it's sup0r realistic, i'd say that being forced to fire rounds to reload is more unrealisitic and detrimental to actual gameplay.
imagine your favorite assault rifle must be emptied to reload. that's how much of a pain and problem it is and can be, especially on the Enfield since you can't just do a mag-dump since it's such a slow ROF.

and technically one could put a new clip in and load the gun at any count of rounds, it's just the extras wouldn't go in and would get tossed with the clip.

The reason why it's manual 1 round reload is the original asset that we got from Forgotten Hope 2 mod had it set up like that, more a matter of convenience for our art staff.

I'm all for allowing reloads before the mag is empty. Yes, there won't be an unique animation to it, but gameplay & realism > animations.

The SKS And Enfield used to be reloadable whenever, I think the reason for removal was because there was no animation for the above so you would just have a bullet hole in your hands and keep pouring bullets and clips into it.

What's the problem as far as i can see in the video the sks just needs to unload the bullets. We can simulate that in PR - just redo the loading animation and its the same thing. As if when the insurgent empties the mag., he just leaves his unfired bullets on the ground.

Why not make the animation so that you don't see the place where you put the bullets in?

In other words, just make the reloading animation simillar to that from ARMA2
