it said in one of the Q&A's on the total bf2 site that planes could switch between bombs and rockets by using the scroller on the mouse much like switching weapon. i was wondering would it be possible to do the same for the tanks for the different types of rounds like HEAT, HE and DUAP etc?
any thoughts?
here's a link to that Q&A i was on about:

I would imagine switching ammo with tanks would be just as simple when it's coded in.

High explosive squash head.
The shaped charge is in the base of the projectile. The shell, on impact, squashes and triggers the charge in the base. A large scab is formed and is blasted at several hundred meters a second around the interior of the turret.

the APFSDS is what many people would call the Sabot, stands for Armour Piercing Fin Stabalised Discarding Sabot.
just wondering a question to the vets/devs in here, im thinking hicky will know, is there a DU depleted uranium shell of a different type than a APFSDS sabot type KE round? if so how do they work?

NO, APFSDS. sabot. DU tipped!
Tests have shown DU to defeat 10 tanks, side by side!!! Never seen it but that was the rumor.
I have seen T55s turret removed by a near miss, but that has nothing to do with the DU thats just KE.

Speaking of sabot rounds there's one thing I've always wondered. Is an M1A2 L44 cannon more effective with DU sabots than the Leo 2A6's L55 cannon with tungsten sabots. Though the L55 is an improved L44 with higher muzzle velocity I wonder if that can make up for the difference in ammo properties and density.

As far as in BF2, the jets have a figther mode and a bomber mode, swicthing between aa missles and dumb bombs. id guess this can be incorperated into tanks, so that they would actaully differentiate between different kinds of rounds, so you have 10 sabot and 15 heap, instead of 25 that can be either. with new mode, this also makes it easier (in my little theoretical dreamland) to make the sound right, ie, sabot up vs heap up.

Hopefully it works, this would leave the up/down ramp keys available for operation of any hatches that would be incorperated.
