[Help] Various Statics by Pfhatoa

Post by pfhatoa »

I've been working with some models for my map Provideniya the last weeks. As I'm quite unskilled with 3d modelling it's been a long and tedious task but I'm getting results. However I do have some problems, hence this thread.

Here comes a lot of picture of my storage house:

As you can see, I'm working with the support for the beam, however I have some doubts about my procedure. First thing is the hidden polygon but that one is easily deletable. However another problem is that the vertex supporting the beam are not connected to the beam and it seems to be impossible to connect them. (Selecting the inner vertex of the beam and the first vertex of the support, press connect, nothing happens...) This ain't a big problem but I have similar problems in other parts of the building with edges being completely parallel yet refuse to merge ;)

Here is some general pictures of the building and a reference picture if that is of some interest. The storage house to the left is the building I'm doing.

ps. this thread is not yet a various statics thread. However, if everything advances in the right direction it might well be!

edit: and I forgot the [HELP/MODEL] prefix -.-

Cool,

For your support, that isn't the best way to do them as its not welded, although is some what "ok" but best not to do it.

Personally what I would do here is use the connect and bridging tool. Here is my quick, simple frame I've just made: http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/4698 ... 093712.jpg

select the edges on the right side, hit connect and then set the connect to do 2 segments, pinch them in until they are square and then slide them up into the right pos. (normally after doing the connect I would move the verts about into the exact pos I wanted them since doing them via connect isn't very accruate most of the time)

http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/332/ ... 094118.jpg

Then do the same with the top:

Then select all the faces within thous segments you have just made, and hit the bridge button and all done with proper welds etc :D

There are other ways of doing it but hopefully this one will work for you :)

Did that (I think) but the thing looked like a corkscrew. I will give it some more tries though. Also, what does the "pinch" and "slide" parameter do?

Thanks for the help.

Pinch pinches the two segments together, where slide, slides them up and down the edge :)

Some updates. First it went corkscrew on my again but using the "Use specific polygons" worked. I've also added some rooms in the office area and a door opening to the storage area. That was a tricky part with a lot of different planes on different heights and shapes but it worked!

edit: don't really need help with anything but if you see something downright wrong give me a shout. oh, I need help. How "high" is the soldier in the different stances so I know how high my windows should be and so on.

I'm working on that slowly, testing them as I need them but what I have right now.
NOTE: All these values are the absolute limits and you should go above/below them as much as possible.

Stand Height: 1.7m
Crouch Height: 1.4m
Prone Height: 0.52m
Jump Height - Standing: 1.37m
Jump Height - Walking: 1.45m
Jump Height - Sprinting: 1.62m
Once I have a complete list I will post it in the forums :)

Thanks, that list is handy. There is nothing as irritating as not be able to fire out of a window due to the fixed heights of crouching and standing.

BTW to avoid any confusion, the Stand, Crouch and Prone heights are not where your camera is in thous stances, but the minimum height you can walk, crouch or crawl under. So if a door way is only 1.5m tall, you will not be able to walk under it, but you will be able to crouch under it etc.

I do plan on getting stats for the best firing heights etc but will do that later on.
