SL radio question

Post by LegioX »

I know I know, as a 7 month SL/Scout Sniper, I should know this, but excuse the noob question as I simply can't take typing coordinates anymore. How do you mark specific targets (objective, TOW, Tank, APC, Kiowa) without a commander???

You have to use the radio to select the distance away and the type of marker
They removed the ability to mark it on the map for some reason

- With the squad leader kit you mark the location of the intended target.
- Open up your map. At the bottom of the map you should see a distance reading. That measure is the distance between you and the target.
- Pick the radio weapon slot.
- Face your target by lining up the compass target marker \/ with the filled white triangle at the bottom of the screen.
- Take one step towards your target.
- Right click to activate the radio
- Press Q
- Click on the middle of the comm rose to set the distance.
- Release Q
- Press Q again then choose the target type using left/right mouse button.

I hope more SLs use this immensely useful feature.

Omg sweet is there like a 1 minute per marker delay like for commanders? Also idk if this is a glitch, but why do I have to set te distance when lazing targets?!?!

Nope, there's no delay, but you only get three markers at a time.

You only have to set the distance to place the laze's map marker. the actual laze itself does not require a distance.

The reason why you take a step forward before spawning the marker is the marker object spawns into the direction the soldier model is headed which often isn't the same as where the player is aiming. A lot of people don't realise it and complain how "inaccurate" the marker is.

Accuracy of 25 meters is quite sufficient for marking enemy positions.

I'm taking the step after I set the distance. Did not know it worked when you set it before!

About taking the step forward thing, I dont think it matters what direction your moving, it only matters that you are FACING that direction when the last time you have moved... so you could be walking backwards or forwards or side strafing, as long as your pointed in the direction you want the marker.

Why this happens? Its something to do with python not picking up mouse movement as an event I think.
Dont know exactly, but it feels similar to the way AFK kicks happen... you can be sitting in a turret/fixed MG, and moving around your mouse, but will still get kicked for AFK if you dont fire in a long time, because the server doesn't register the mouse movement and can only detect if your walking/shooting.

I talk about markers at the start and do a simple recap at 2min 45.

Cheers, Murkey.

It amazes me how many SL's don't use this feature. It drives me nuts, since it is so extremely useful I use very consistently. Superior communication wins games.

Exactly! I some time play as commander to try to pry intel from squad leaders to help out the team. It doesn't have to come down to that.

^^^

Agree, even in the most respected servers you barely see SLs using this useful feature. It's also quick to use so I can only think that is all due to lazyness...or possibly selfishness - in wanting to take out the enemy they failed to wipe out.

By marking enemy sights in the map, you give alot of useful intel to the team and what routes to follow.

A schoolboy error, and I really do hate to see it. A 'SL/Scout Sniper' that doesn't know how to spot, even after 7 months being l33t and with the manual at his disposal. I really do hate to see the stereotype so well demonstrated.

Good on you for asking though, a step in the right direction. And yes, I know, you always had a commander when you were 'spotting' .. All of the best teamwork servers have commanders.. Riiight.

Since the SL marking systems introduction I have always been frustrated at it not always marking the intended spot I have marked. I didn't realize that you had to move one way or the other (w,s,a,d) while placing the marker to mark the exact placement of the target. I tried it out today and am so damn happy with it. I wish I would've known this a long long time ago. Perfection! thanks for the help guys.

.................. Geez, I am a good recon/CAS spotter, sometimes a good SL (if i have exactly 4 non noobs). I was playing recon today, and put down so many markers. I was using an Officer spotting for my sniper. We still lost, cuz despite knowing where the enemy tank is, our armor noobs decided to charge headfirst, losing 100 tickets every 20 minutes.

Quoted for truth.

Using SL radio is a must in Mumbleless servers. It's sad there's still a reasonable amount of people not using this wonderful device. I myself try to mark every enemy encounter possible. Like, if we're engagin infantry 100 m away - I'm gonna mark it. One small mark can make a difference between death and life of your infantry or some heavy asset.
