Upgrading

So I'm going to upgrade my board and my cpu.

I was thinking of a 1366 slot board and an i7 960. Now a buddy of mine told me that this was a stupid idea and that the 1155 and 1156 slots are way better than the 1366. I think my buddy is a retard, but I want your guys opinion, this upgrade is happening no matter what so I want to get the best I can, that I can upgrade later.

Your buddy is 100% correct. It is a silly idea going for a 960 as a 2600k will blast it right out of the water...(also for half the price) Also by getting a 1155 mobo, you can then upgrade to a ivy bridge cpu next year if you feel the need. The only thing the 1155 socket mobos lack is triple channel ram and that doesnt = much better performance. Although ram is more limited voltage wise for Sandy Bridge, at 1.5 recommended (many people still run the 1.65v stuff) but some corsair vengance ram is at 1.5v and looks pretty fast. So yes. Go 1155.

X2. Sandy Bridge (1155) is the way to go, it is a lot faster and the K units can be overclocked to the roof.

its intels latest and greatest. It doesnt mean 1366 arent great since they're still still more than you need in terms of gaming and they're only a tad behind the sandy bridge cpus but for future upgradability, they'll be obsolete by the end of this year.
