Random crashes with no error msg

Post by kingofthreads »

Alright so I have just switched my computer from XP to windows 7 and upon redownloading PR I am now having random crashes after a few minutes of gameplay. The screen turns black and goes to the desktop with no error messages or reasons why. The computer never had any issue with PR when I was on XP but when I switched to Windows 7 this thing just constantly crashes on me.

When looking for answers please follow these simple steps.

#1 : Read the red stickys First.
New PR problems are rare so most answers can be found here.

#2. Use the search feature on PRs web site or Google it!.
Often the quickest way to find what your looking for when you have an error message.

#3. Please remember to include your basic PC info in your post

You have spent some time trying to help yourself without any luck, so your ready to ask for help:

Please include your basic PC info in your post :
Operating system = XP, Vista etc.
systems specks = cpu/speed, ram installed, video card/video ram on card, type of monitor
network setup = cable, 4 port 10/100/1000 d- link gamers lounge/ wired connection.
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.
The more info you can give the better your chance of getting a quick answer back.
You don't have to write a book,
but your basic PC info is needed to help you.

Good luck

I read the stickies and they helped me fix my previous issue of Pr.exe but that was it. Did a search and the only one that related had no responses.
Here are some specs

Processor: AMD Athlon? 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.50 GHz
Installed memory: 4.00 GB (2.75 usable)
System type: 32-bit

The CTD tends to hit maybe after 30 minutes to an hour of gameplay? Most of the time it just crashes right to the desktop with no error messages. But just recently while playing on a Co-Op server th whole bloody screen froze and I had to reset the whole computer. This is odd because all my other games work fine (Half-life 2, Left 4 Dead 2).

Previous info:

I played this game for well over a year on this computer using XP and it worked perfectly. Then I had a virus and had to flatten my computer and had to switch to Windows 7. Now there has been one issue I found which was that the computer can?t read anything on the disk driver. I put in a CD or DVD and the damn thing freezes on me every time. Also I have had 2 pop ups for when I start PR with windows asking me about the .exe being safe but that should have nothing to do with it.

Also I did attempt to move PR over via the family network but this flopped and I had to remove and reinstall the program.

I honestly have no clue why the CD/DVD driver is going nuts but it could be linked to PR in some way?

I've got the same problem and I don't know how to fix it , too. Moreover I've got a second issue that occures sometimes instead of this one without an error message. The other one is memory.dll error. I dont know if this two issues are connected to each other in any way but maybe you could help me with both of them.

OP: Win 7 Ult 32- bit
CPU: AMD ATHLON X4 640 Processor 4 x 3.00 GHz
Ram: 4GB (3,25 GB useable)

Firstly it astounds me that people pay for 4 gb of ram then decide to use only 3gb of it by using a 32 bit os. That goes for both kingofthreads and spear (and many more but they aren't in this thread). This relates to memory out of bound errors.

Now that's out of the way, what troubleshooting steps have you taken thus far, so no one wastes time suggesting things to try that you've done already?

What settings are you running?

My first suggestion would be running pr in windowed mode and as an admin to see if it is one of the more standard errors or if we have to start looking at steam and such.

win7 uses 4gb except for basic win7 (at least thats what MS says), but 32 bit only allows 2gb of usage per program.

try doing this, it helped me somewhat, just make sure to run as admin.

it would completely fix it if you did it on BF2.exe but then you get kicked by PB for MD5 tool mismatch :(

I've pretty much done everything a normal gamer would do except edit the files directly.

Running in admin, I disabled my windows theme, turned off steam, downloaded and reinstalled every client and patch even went and grabbed a different version of BF2.

I didn't buy this PC btw or I wouldv'e gotten the 64 bit version.

Ill try it.

EDIT: I did all that and I still get the crash with no error; Looked in my PR error file and found the same configuration problem as I posted above.

Edit2: Could it be our BF2 client?

I'm getting the same problem. It used to work completely fine on my computer, just restored it in factory settings, and I'm getting the same black screen with no reason. I'll try admin mode.

Let me know if you find how to fix it.

Wait! It works for me :)

Just uninstalled everything, and I mean EVERYTHING BF2-PR related.

Than I ran the installation again and thought fuck the booster-packs and just installed BF2 with the 1.41 patch whilst cancelling Special Forces, Operation Armor. . whatever it's called etc.

And it worked :) Run it in administrator like I did and you'll hopefully get it working. Inshallah.

Hope it works bud.

You can get a good deal on amazon, maybe even buy a used one, won't cost you more than $10.
