Copying the setting to a new install

I have set up a new OS on a new hdd and i want to copy all my PR settings from the old one.

I did it the usual way, by copying the profile folder from the documents. On the new install the settings appear good but i can't log in with my account, as the password field contains a lot more characters than it should. Me forgeting the pw didn't help much either.
On the old system the same profile files are working perfectly.

Seems like simply copying the profile is not enough to properly copy the password too. Is there any way to do this?
