USMC M16A4 foregrips

Post by RealKail »

Personally, I was excited about the addition of foregrips to weapons like the M4 and the PIP m249, but I see no reason to have added the foregrips to the m16s.

For one, it looks hideous. I really don't know how really to elaborate on that, but the longer barrel of the m16 coupled with foregrips just makes the gun look silly overall.

Second, in my opinion they're impractical. On more compact weapons like the M4, they can help you keep your weapon stable when firing. The shorter length cooperates with the foregrips. The m16 with the longer barrel is better supported from about mid-way down the barrel. I mean seriously, put foregrips on an m16a4 near the magwell and then hold it, it feels ridiculously silly and imbalanced.

Anyways, this is just my thought on the matter. I'd love to hear what other folks think about the m16s with foregrips.

I would like to see a bit more variety in weapon models, like having some without foregrips and some with foregrips :)

+1

M16A4 with grip looks really ugly, I agree.

How do you feel about full-fledged grip pods? Sure, they're just as ugly; but they appear to have some decent benefits (stability when firing from the prone and the off-hand). Plus, they strike me as a decent trade-off between dedicated vertical grips and bipods.

I doubt it would be worth putting a "deployed" M16A4/M4 in BF2 :P R just for the the sake of that small feature; but perhaps for ArmA II or the stand-alone PR game (should that ever become a reality)?

well gents we use them in RL to great effect, it helps to manage recoil (however small it is), its more comfortable for me personally and gives me the option to deploy my bipod if needed. How they "look" is really of no concern to me or any other Marine i'd be willing to bet.

Battle LA= most cliche action flick ever released.

The thing about the foregrip is that it is wayy to close to the receiver.I think it should be right in between the receiver and the muzzle break.

Since the grip is rail-mounted the operator can put it in his own preferance on the RIS, however in general it is most likely found in the middle.

With that, do the USMC M16A4 and US M4 share the same texture files? Is that do to the foregrips location on the M16 is relatively the same distance from the receiver as the M4's?

It's in the same position because both M4 and M16 share animations.

I rather like the foregrips. I really don't know what you guys are talking about.

Most if not all Marines have vertical grips on their rifles. The only rail accessory seen consistently on US battle rifles besides rail covers is the vertical grip and I think it looks much better with than without.

They're fine the way they are.

I personally prefer holding my M16 *well in the past now but still* by the front of the magazine well. Not a fan of holding my arm out halfway downt he barrel.

M16's foregrips got 2 functions - foregrip and mini-bipod(Except Ironsight version).
Also - mini-bipod don't work in PR.
IRL foregrips makes gun a little ergonomic thats without it.I think no sense to remove it.

Yeah, I used to hate doing that and thought it was stupid, but holy jesus it's like 10x more comfortable.

on topic though: I love the foregrips, I think it looks a lot better with them, and adds a bit to realism. We even throw a foregrip on our SAWs now >_>

The foregrips serve no purpose here in PR. Regular rifle deviation is universal (at least to my knowledge) in PR, so there goes the main argument for them. Plus, I really don't know of many Marines who have the vertical grips on their M16s, though a good number have them on M4s.

Where I was stationed in Kings Bay, GA in MCSFBn *Marine Corps Security Forces Battalion* every Marine had a foregrip on their M16.

What makes that pic even better is how gay the guy in the background is at pretending he's a super l33t paratrooper, carrying his machine gun and with his mate over his shoulder.. Embarassment radiates from that .jpg. I bet he has more army gear than an actual soldier but has never ran further than to the toilet at his mums house.
