[Vehicle] F-5e/HESA Saeqeh [WIP]
Hey,
my first post on these forums though I'm following PR since its beginnings. Quite a time ago I did the Mesh+UV for the Kiowa used by USI and PR.
During the last years I've been busy with another (medieval) project, but now I also got some time to spend on more modern stuff. I was looking for some Aircraft that wasn't used by any mod so far and I found an Iranian multirole aircraft, the HESA Saeqeh:
HESA Saeqeh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's basically a modified F-5e but it's said to be completely iranian made. Due to the lack of blueprints/good reference material I decided to model a F-5e first and then do the changes needed for a Saeqeh. So far the F-5e mesh is nearly complete.
The mesh still needs some optimization and the model of course still is WIP

hey meerchi you are still around
nice work as always
if you have some more sparetime the Bundeswehr in PR could need a Tiger Model

Oh, you have removed the pics ? It looked nice.
If you are interested in working for PR on other tasks (as Andy mentionned), we would welcome your help.

actually just wanted to add another pic, not deleting all the rest
@Hautecloque + Andy: As I mentioned I'm currently working on another (Ogre3d) game project. But for a change I love modeling (preferably flying
) stuff. Often I don't finish these models and they rot on my hard drive, so I'd love to provide models for PR. But I have to say it's kinda hard for me to stick to deadlines since I have to go to university + the modeling/animating work for the game project in my free time.

F-5 variants could be used in PR by MEC, AU and Brazil.
PR hasn't had a new jet added in 2 years and 8 months.

if you want you could post up a list with the models you have on your graveyard HDDMeerchi wrote:actually just wanted to add another pic, not deleting all the rest

@andy: check your pm's
well my primary aim is still to finish the saeqeh but if you guys could use one of the tiger's versions it shouldn't be a too big problem to provide it.
On we go. Worked on the 3P-cockpit and also did some animation for testing purposes.
Since it should be impossible to find a saeqeh cockpit layout, I'm going to try to get my hands on a "Patruille Suisse" F-5 cockpit.

Something like this ?

Airliners.net and Prime Portal are the best references website you can find to my mind. (maybe you know them already

Re: [Vehicle] F-5e/HESA Saeqeh [WIP]
thanks for your help dude
i just did some research and what i found out is kinda funny. it's really hard to find Saeqeh cockpit pics. After searching some forums I found the pic attached. It shows the saeqeh cockpit, and if you compare it to hautecloque's 3rd pic absolutely nothing has changed. Even the knobs are where they were 20 years ago. And that's one of their most modern aircrafts ...
The second pic attached shows the cockpit of a brazilian F-5e. That's how a cockpit should look like

Re: [Vehicle] F-5e/HESA Saeqeh [WIP]
Nice work Meerchi!
Sorry I haven't replied to your PMs but if you didn't see in my sig I've been away travelling for the last few weeks without access to the forums.
It looks like a good start on the model, but from optimizing your Kiowa iirc you didn't weld up some things you needed to, epically in the cockpit so try and weld up everything you can to have a much cleaner mesh, although so far the base looks good but could really use bigger pictures etc, check this post out which should help you make better posts on your progress so we can give you some better feedback
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f388-p ... ssets.html
As for the landing gear, no need for an animation mate its all done by code around rotation points although you should make sure that your landing gear is all done by rotation and as few separate object rotations as possible.
Also for the 1st person Cockpit, I will need to go into detail on that before you start making it as there are quite a lot of key things to go over and new ways we are now making them. Also for texturing, we now bake our 3rd person cockpit textures off the 1st person cockpit models so they are the same and take a lot less work overall
Anyways keep up the good work, no doubt we should be able to use this somewhere in PR!

Indeed, the pics are a bit small
did add some cockpit-stuff and also did some changes on the mesh. here's how it looks atm.
yes i know. i didn't really finish the cockpit, since it was a bit frustrating not to find anyone who could skin it. when pr took over i was more or less inactive already. It looks like a good start on the model, but from optimizing your Kiowa iirc you didn't weld up some things you needed to, epically in the cockpit so try and weld up everything you can to have a much cleaner mesh

Re: [Vehicle] F-5e/HESA Saeqeh [WIP]
Taken a quick look, a few points I think you can improve on

First of all on the wing, at its connecting edge there seems to be a face here which dosen't look like it needs to be there although your refs may say otherwise.
Next down, circled in red there seems to be an extra vert here, not going to help tris or smoothing so best to weld that vert with the other one.
Also on the wing, both main and tail wing, at the moment your basically just have boxes for wings where really you want a wing shape, which you can easily have an even save a few tris on in some places
Here is a basic wing shape, although there are lots of different types of wings this is the most common and basic shape, what shapes this plane is thou you may find hard to find but its code which will make it fly ingame, not physics luckily so it doesn't need to be true to life

As you can see from that profile picture of a basic wing, the wing is far from box shaped. At the front its very smooth with a wide bit pushing the air up making it going slower over the wing, crating low pressure above the wing and with high pressure under the wing with the air moving fast under it, crates lift. Now in modelling terms this means that for the front of the wing you just want to collapse the leading edge, and then bring up two edges above and below it to make the basic shape. Then at the rear of the wing you just collapse the edges, crating a very sharp ending
Then with the smoothing groups you just smooth the whole wing, but on the end of the wing you just give the top and bottom face tow different smoothing groups and then the faces connecting them you give thous smoothing groups, as well as the same smoothing group and the front as the wing and you get the right smoothing effect
The tail thin also needs the same basic thing applied too, although its not crating any lift, its just there to cut though the air so both sides are the same, but still the same front part of the tin is a little bulky to push the air around it, and then the end trails off in a sharp edge which also saves polys
Also below your tail thin I've highlighted what looks to be an unnecessary vert/edge.
Also for your nose cone, it looks like you could optimize it quite a bit by collapsing a few edges as per the Optimization part of this tut: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... heavy.html
and the mid part of this tut: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f189-m ... nders.html
Also your tail end could possibly do with more smoothing, as my last tut linked above as right now its looking a little blocky.
Also as for bombs, you don't need to model them unless your modelling new bombs as we will put on the bombs that are currently in game. Fuel tanks etc are still required thou.
As for your 3p cockpit, tbh it looks like your going a little OTT with the details for a 3p cockpit in some places, cut it down to the bare minimum as hardly anyone will look inside the cockpit from the outside.
Other than that looks like a good start

Re: [Vehicle] F-5e/HESA Saeqeh [WIP]
hey thanks for your effort
most of the things that you found can be explained.
i still have the "symmetry" modifier applied, that's what creates the unnecessary "center edges". I will delete those when the modelling/optimization is done and the modifier is collapsed into the stack. What you have marked on the main wing can be explained with my first screenshot. When I started to model I actually wanted to animate these parts but I think for BF2/PR it's unnecessary.
the rest shall be done just as you wish

the f-5 has extremely thin wings. the model's main wing does have a wing shape though it's not very distinctive. It's kinda hard for me to judge if the real F5's rear wing does have such a shape. Judging from the reference material I have collected I would rather say no, but I'm not a specialist. Also on the wing, both main and tail wing, at the moment your basically just have boxes for wings where really you want a wing shape, which you can easily have an even save a few tris on in some places

Ah sorry ye forgot about the ailerons etc, they are needed and do move in BF2, but again like the landing gear they are not animated but done by code.

isn't this the thing that the Iranians claim to be just as good or even better than the F-18?
