Popularity of PR
Hello guys.
Recently, I found my copy of BF:2, and being an avid player of BC2 on my Xbox 360, I decided to play. Long story short I stumbled across this website via youtube.com.
Having never really played BF:2 online when it came out, or PR when it came out, AND it being a rather old game, do people still play this game? Is it possible to get games whenever I feel like it?
Also, my PC is a bit sucky. I can only really play BF:2 on low for optimal gameplay (60+ FPS). Does PR have settings equivalent of BF:2 on low?
Thanks for all of the answers in advance! I hope there is still a large PR community to play with! I will be downloading the 3 parts over the next week, as I still have exams on.

Yes lots play.
Project Reality - PRSPY - Server and player browser and tracker - Create a buddy list - Launch PR directly
Need really at least 2gb of RAM 4 better to enjoy PR, as it's hungrier than VBF.
Post specs for better response.

The PR Community has more members than it ever has. There are always multiple servers populated, although most arent worth joining due to terrible gameplay.

It's definitely worth playing, there is always a server that you can join. Plus, with 200 player games on occasion, this is one of the best gaming communities around. Just remember, there is a huge learning curve from console games, although it's better that you come from BC than CoD, as you are accustomed to squads, larger battlefields, and vehicles.

i suggest that you upgrade your grpahics card at least to a 512MB and get another 2 GBN of RAM, depending on your age and employment status it should be fairly easy and cheap for around ?70 ish.

If you want to have some kind of check of players, go to Project Reality - PRSPY - Server and player browser and tracker - Create a buddy list - Launch PR directly .Uristmcminer wrote:Hello guys.

I have a logitech one sitting with me just now. Hopefully I wont need to upgrade my PC just to play it. I do play on getting a part time job over the holidays though, so I should be able to afford one then.echo wrote:You can probably play on low with that graphics card and with that amount of memory. PR is very intensive when it comes to computers. - Though you might get away with a few settings on medium, but that isn't promising anything. But yeah PR is still played. There is always a server to join. It is finding a server which has the best gameplay and amount of teamwork.
I also suggest you getting a microphone since it is quite detrimental to have one. You don't have to have a mic, it is just easier if you do and you can also discover the wonders of positional audio through Mumble.
Hope ya have fun!

Re: Popularity of PR
Also, sorry for the double post, does PR support single player battles? Can I choose the number of bots I play with?

Welcome to the forums.
There are usually 500-1000 people playing Project Reality at any one time, variable between peak times. You can get a game whenever you want, it's whether it is a good game is the issue
PR does have far higher system requirements than vanilla BF2, if you can only run that on low I can pretty much guarantee that you won't be able to run PR on anything other than low, if at all.

The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "

I've been searching AGES for a game that sports conflicts in areas such as Fallujah, Jalalabad and Hellmand!

Thanks for the welcome! I do not care about graphics, it is the gameplay and experience I want.[R-MOD]Jigsaw wrote:Welcome to the forums.

Re: Popularity of PR
Be advised, though, that the singleplayer gameplay is nowhere near the quality of online play in PR.
Make sure to read the manual, have a microphone, and tell the squad leader that you're new once you join a squad online. Stick to basic infantry for the start, or you'll have half the team e-yelling at you for having wasted an APC or helicopter. Experience comes with time
There's usually several fullish servers. However, the hardware requirements of PR, in my experience, are significantly higher than BF2's. You have maps easily four times as big on average with a much higher density of cover, much larger view distance, much larger and longer lasting smoke effects, higher detail, enterable and sometimes destructible buildings... And all that at higher texture and model quality.

Re: Popularity of PR
yeah, I'm a little late into this thread
but welcome to the forums and the PR community!
We're very much alive and kicking. If you've had a look on our server list in game (if you've installed the mod) there's quite a few fullish servers online at any one time.
I'd be careful though; once you start playing PR, it's a bit hard to get back into vanilla BF2 because of the high level of teamwork and realism in this mod
Once again, welcome!

Re: Popularity of PR
Anyone who's only played vanilla BF2 also needs to be ready for a huge culture shock when first venturing into PR. The gameplay is MUCH, MUCH slower than vBF2. It also requires much more teamwork and is infinitely more punishing. The main thing that is required to play PR is patience. Do not be surprised if you end up sitting on the same ToW, looking at the same direction for 20 min while nothing is happening.

That's the best part of the game (beside the action)
You can talk with the squad or clan, enjoy the view (distance
) and wait for your great moment to kick off a Tank that wasn't carefull enough ^^

If you think about these things in detail they sound really boring.
Imagine sitting 30min at the toilet of kashan bunker waiting for enemies or flying people from a to b for 2 hours.
Its fascinating how much fun they actually do. Its the principle of working as a team and be a small and still important part of it that keeps you enjoying these moments so much.
And cmon, whats better than finally killing a whole squad rushing the bunker?
And even if these never happens you enjoyed the time making jokes over mumble/voip with your squadmates.

That ALWAYS shows up ten seconds after boredom got you off the TOW, and as you wait for the TOW to 'warm up' kills you dead....AtlantisThief wrote: a Tank that wasn't carefull enough ^^
