Re: [WIP] British Soldier Model [WIP]
lots of facial differences, including non-white soldiers would be awesome (not just black and white mind, it should be white, indian extraction etc etc to reflect British multiculturalism in the military (heck, lets show our support for the GurkhasGive them a big, bushy tasch. Well, the officer should have one for lulz...

Re: [WIP] British Soldier Model [WIP]
Take a step back squaddie and look at your body proportions.
The human figure is approximately 7 to 8 head lengths tall, yours is about 5-6, thereby making him look squat, or as Bosco said, like a child.

The problem is much more fundamental, so I'd advise correcting that before moving on.

Re: [WIP] British Soldier Model [WIP]
yea the head has abit of work left on it, along with the boots for that fact, I did base the boots on my lowas so they will look rather chunkey. But I agree that the proportions are abit silly, cheers for the criticism tho, we need to know what you guys think to improve the model to become is best. We would also like to know what you guys would like to see on the model. Bare in mind it is still only in WIP phase, but if you have any ideas or 'must haves' let us know.

If you are going to rework the base model could you grab a few wireframe shots of it and post it?
It is vital that player models and other organic structures are constructed in a way so they will bend and animate correctly.

Re: [WIP] British Soldier Model [WIP]
Try to construct it entirely of quads where possible: (so it bends correctly)

And try to incorporate the flow of the musculature (so it animates correctly)

And it wont be easy
think of this as a 3 dimensional soduko
but if you manage to pull it off... well... the result will speak for itself

Question to Chuc, Z-trooper, Squadie and Tonnie: How did you guys learn to make 3d models?!
Any sites or links for beginners?

These are the ones that I recommend to people who want to start modeling (for games), it is where I started out...MCI wrote:Question to Chuc, Z-trooper, Squadie and Tonnie: How did you guys learn to make 3d models?!

Another good way to learn is to challange yourself with a object - like a weapon or something you would like to see ingame.'[R-DEV wrote:Z-trooper;972906']Hey there. Just gave you a bit more describing thread title.
I will dig up a few good ones that helped me out when I started out.
Here we are:
Creating a weapon for Source "Glock tutorial"
Part 1: modeling the weapon
Creating a Weapon for Source tutorial - Mod DB
Part 2: unwrapping and texturing the weapon
Creating a Weapon For Source - Part 2 tutorial - Mod DB
Part 3: rigging, animating and importing into Source engine
Creating a Weapon for Source - Part 3 tutorial - Mod DB
Alternative modeling vid "Beretta tutorial"
Beretta 9000 Video Tutorial tutorial - Mod DB
Small beginner vids. Anoying video player but some good ones for beginning and understanding 3ds max.
Free 3d Max video tutorials from video-tutes.com
Other than that I can recommend using autodesks own tutorials. they have some long .pdf's on a lot of subjects.
General questions and problems are frequently asked here in this forum so feel free to post pics and ask if you run into problems.
Good hunting![]()

I'm assuming the sidearm holster is only going to be on Officer kit geometries?
Like mentioned before i'd say you should vary the pouches a bit. I'm thinking that's quite important.

Tonnie and I are both working on a selection of various molle/modular pouches atm, the PR ones are pretty much place holder pouches. We will also be including daypacks, camelbaks etc. All the kits will be played around with abit. Im also thinking about maybe applying the collar and shoulder padding to the support class, but me and tonnie will have to come to some kind of agreement on that.
