During vietnam some American & Australian soldiers were swapping their m16s for AK47s, due to the better reliablility of the AK, it was a risky thing to do though, cos of the AKs distinctive sound, u ran the risk of getting hit by friendly fire by some jumpy GI. (n no, I didn't get that from the BFV loading screen

, I did like a 20 page study on Australias involvment in Vietnam when I was in yr8, n I still remember bits of miselanious info like that

As to that sought of thing occuring nowdays, I don't know bout the professional soldiers, though I'm sure some of the SF soldiers at least carry an AK, simply because it'd allow them to use magazines they pull off the enemy when they start gettin low on ammo, but I know some of the private security contractors in Iraq are doing it.
Then again, I can't remember the name of it, so don't ask, but there's a new mod of the m4 out which has been modifyed to take the same banana mags n rounds as the AK series, which apparently they've been shipping to Iraq as fast as they can make them, at least to the SF, due to the boys gettin low on ammo, yet always runnin into enemy ammo caches, n this new m4 mod allows them to use those caches to resupply themselves. I think someone else mighta brought it up in these forums, but I can't be bothered trying to track it down atm.
In regards to the mod, simple, just make it so they only pick up the enemies primary weapon, n maybe secondary (if they hav one), with no change to player skin (unlike DC where u get an Iraqi hat n backpack or woteva if u pick up an Iraqi kit, n vice versa)
