PR and Vista x64

Post by stoobywon »

I'm upgrading my computer and for it to be able to handle the 6 GB of RAM that it will have in it, I need to go to 64-bit.
I'm wondering what, if any, problems PR might have with 64 bit.
Thanks

Hi mate, No problems at all really, just a little bug here and there if your unlucky...

Check out the Tech Support forum though, especially the 64 bit section :D

also take a look at the patched BF2.exe that Ancient man made aswell to enable BF2 to run off more than 2 gbs of RAM
you can try patching your bf2.exe to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory. Firstly, you want to backup your current bf2.exe in your /Battlefield 2/ folder. To do this, simply rename it from bf2.exe to bf2.exe.original. You should back it up incase you have any issues in the future. Now you need to download the patched bf2.exe. This can be found in THIS zip file (THIS one if your using the EA Downloader version) (If you get a virus warning, ignore it, just a false positive). Simply extract it next to bf2.exe.original, and your good to go. Thanks to R.J.Travis for the original method.

Wait so the stock BF2 executable will only make use of 2 gigs?

That sucks. Does anyone know if you use the modded version and have more than 2 gigs will it get rid the texture memory error?

I think texture memory error is related to graphics card and it's drivers, not game executable or system RAM.

Purrs like a kitten, especially with that fixed executable. No more CTDs on map change.

Do not use higher resolution than 1024,otherwise it will crash after loading a map, I also recommend to use textures and terrain in medium because if u use it in high it will most likely crash very often

Absolutely none. Don't even need the updated executable if you will have 6 GB of RAM.

For future tech questions... remember to post in the tech sub section.

Not really true,
1600*1200 all high on vista 64 runs quite smoothly without any CTD:s.

Yeah, the memory fix sorted the high textures crash issue for me, and thats the only one i've had.

I get crash-to-desktops even I use 1024x768 with medium settings + modified BF2.exe so this theory is rubbish...

Wait, what memory fix?

I still play on medium textures to avoid the memory error. Is there some fix I missed out on so I can play on all high? It looks much nicer with high textures.

And FWIW I play on 1440x900 with Vista x64 and no crashes.

Vista 64bit, 8GB RAM, GeForce 8800 GTS 512M, 1920x1200 resolution with high settings here and I've never seen "texture memory error" or experienced CTD on map load.

Do you use 'fixed exe' (largeaddressaware) or the default one?

Yah I downloaded the fixed .exe, it allows more than 2GB of RAM usage for BF2 correct?

Someone told me the texture memory error was due to the graphics card and not the actual system memory usage so I haven't tried high textures with it yet as I'm afraid it will just crash again.
