EA has given us the ability to air-drop vehicles, so why not use it? Currently, after a vehicle is destroyed, it goes on a spawn time. After that spawn times is up, the vehicle magically respawns at the base.

What if when the vehicle's spawn time was exhausted, the commander had the choice to air drop it?

He wouldn't be able to air drop it anywhere, only on flags that your team controlled. So instead of vehicles respawning at flags, they airdrop to flags.

Now the commander has more control of where he puts his assets on the battlefield. If there is a base under heavy attack, why not call in a low-flying c-130 (LAPES drop) To fly in and drop an APC. Much more realistic than instantly spawning vehicles.

The commander can only drop these vehicles at certain areas specified by the maker of the map. Maybe at all flags, maybe only at the rear flag, or how about somewhere completely away from the flag? It's up to the mapmaker to decide what drop sites suit his/her needs best.

When the commander selects and area to drop a vehicle, maybe it could be similar to selecting spawn points when one is dead. This would prevent the commander from either on purpose or accident dropping vehicles on buildings.

Of course tanks can't be deployed this way, so maybe any vehicle that cannot be airdropped on the battlefield could only spawn at main bases. Why should tanks spawn in the middle of nowhere anyway? They should only spawn at main depots, barracks, airfields, etc.

I know this may not be possible but it might be a really cool addition for future releases

Thats actually a pretty good idea instead of the spawning. Never thought about it like that. Maybe have more tanks, and they just dont spawn.

Although starting a post with " EA has given us ______ , so why not use it? " kind of makes me want to stop reading as they have given us all kinds of cool things like instaprone and cone of fire.

I think the concept of it would be nice, but a vehicle itself would suck for PR.

Maybe the coding can be altered in a certain way to add something new and unique that I can't think up yet. I'm thinkin about dropping things like heavy weapons or whatever, but um, there aren't any heavy weapons, and stuff like ammo is already dealt with.

The only airdrop I would like to see is squad members that are spawning on the Squad Leader to be dropped from the sky instead of appearing from the Earth (as taken from another thread).

I could only see it used for some very open maps more like the ones in USI. Overall i don't think the air dropping would work for most maps in PR and i could only see the USA/Uk using it unless china had air dominance for a map or something :(

China parachute vehicles.

It's a realistic option as Eddie pointed out, I think people should stop flaming the idea just because they're yet to witness a car falling from the sky. We're talking about jeeps here, and they're on a long timer. It adds to the tactics of the game, it won't ruin things. Yes, they will be abused on city maps, but am I the only person who's found themselves stranded in the middle of a large open map because their convoy just got ambushed? Say you're the squad leader, your jeep got hit by a rocket and half your crew died, so you take cover in the nearest bushes. You call for a supplies airdrop and await the respawn of your squad who didn't make it out alive. You radio in a LAPES drop for a HMMNV and turn the tables on those stray rocketeers guarding the path.

It's not going to be tanks flying from the air, landing on rooftops shooting everyone who moves around the streets. They'd only be used in suitable situations.

And don't get me started on spawning in the air. Real armies infrequently bring their men to the frontline in an airplane, normally it's just covert special forces units arriving behind enemy lines in a HALO jump to avoid detection. In times of real war when two modern armies are facing each other, do you really think the armies would risk flying massive transport aircraft over the battlefields to drop men out? I certainly don't.

I support Six7's idea of having vehicles airdropped at spawnpoints. As long as it stills work in the request system, so a squad leader goes to a flag and requests a humvee drop there. The commander can see his current vehicle allowance and decides whether using one of the vehicles on that target would be acceptable and thus accepts or declines the request.

One solution could be to sling the vehicles in using helos. Question is, can it be done with the BF2 engine?

Using the CH/MH(whatever)-53E heavy lift helo you can realistically airlift a LAV-25 and obviously the smaller hummers as well.

I doubt if the UK could retain sanitized air like the US or China, the RAF at the moment, althogh it is well trained, it uses seriously inferiour aircraft.

After the Typhoon and F-35 come into service things will get better.

There are too much trees on the maps to use the LAPES system :) Imagine a C130 on Wake ;)

I think it could be cool on certain infantry-based, non-urban, relatively-large maps where you might infact see groups of infantry cut off and in need of light vehicle support.
