ok idk if this will help or not but since ive had this card in and used it to play css, my frame rate in game hasnt reali changed with all the same settings :S and as well with my old 7600gt it was recommended under video options to use anisotropic x2 but with the gtx 275 it recommends trilinear???? y would this be. since the card is better shouldnt the filtering be better :S im confused there

What is advising you to use those settings?

How do you mean you see no difference in games?

what was the framerate in CS before?

the programme was recommending those settings in counter strike source options.

with my 7600 gt i got a framerate (in office) of around 90ish on high settings. with the 275 gtx my framerate oh has gone up a bit bout 90-100 but in certain areas it still drops to like 40, 50 frames just like my 7600 gt did.

for example (7600gt) when you look out from the ct spawn area to the snow under the open garage door i get a frame rate of about 40-50 fps which is in the red zone of the fps thing in css (cl_showfps 1). with the 275 gtx its the same. i dnt understand y it would be since the graphics card should be a lot better

yes it should be alot better, and never dropping that low at all.

Im running a 260 and I never dip below 100fps on CSS with everything maxed running at 1680 by 1050

any idea of wat could be causing this?
could it be too much dust had built up on something preventing it from gettin cool air?
my cpu should be able to handle the games fine as most of em for designed for like p4's and a dual core was an ideal thing to have at the time when the games were made.
2gb of ram is enough for these 2 games to run very well.
i hell wana fix this cos it is quite annoyin since i spent 500 odd dollars to upgrade the pc with the new graphics card and power supply lol :(

haha ive never done a real good clean nd ive had the thing for about 3 years. the power supply is brand new and so is the graphics card so they would be dust free, i think there would be a lot of dust built up behind that fan with the metal round thing behind it. the only reason y i havent cleaned it properly is because i have no idea how to pull it apart and put it back together.

and yes i did a defrag yesterday and it all went blue cept for the green part which cant be moved

To be completely honest with you if your playing at 40-50 frames thats pretty good, consol makers shoot for 60fps on there games cause once it gets higher then that the human eye cant tell much dif.

What OS you using this can make a big difference, I would suggest that you add another 2gb's of ram would help lots. It would be possibly the cheap option.
3 x 22" samsung 226bw. Matrox triplehead Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) OC 3.2 , 8gb's of 1066mhz ram. 9800GTX OCX. 520mb. 3 x 320gbs samsungs. raid 0

Not at all, console FPS and PC FPS are totally different, this is about optimization, not so much game experience. for some reason his PC isnt running right, which means he has a problem.

Not really smee, as he is talking about CSS running worse than PR, which is Odd, especially as graphically his PC is better than mine. Granted another 2 gigs would be cool, but not for a game that was recommended with 1. He is also using XP SP3 so even more reason not to be OS :?

You can also check the games integrity with steam too, if you right click on the link for the game and its one of the options in properties.

alrite what ive done is taken it to the local pc store where i was talkin to a guy who does a bit of gaming and understands, he's gona run some tests nd get back to me.

while i was there we found out i had 2 512mb ram sticks and 1 1gb stick which he said computers dnt like much.

as well he said it could be that the processor and motherboard are getting old but they should run css and bf2 good though because for the time when the games where made that was a good very good system.

when i hear back from him ill post what he said here.

thanks for all your support so far guys :)

ok last nite i was reading this. Could this have ne thing to do with my bad fps

"If you are having stuttering problem the chances are its nothing to do with video or memory. Try disabling your sound card completely and retest. If you are using onboard sound chips like realtek they are processor intensive and will cause the judders set the hardware accel to lowest in windows and set to software mode with low quality sound. Upgrade the soundcard drivers to the latest version also. Creative have done some specials in the latest drivers thats worth it alone."

alrite got pc back from local pc store the guy that ran the tests said that every thing was workin fine nd the dust wasnt a issue. what he told me was that the BUS speed of my cpu was slow (800MHz) and the card is a lot better than that.

I got new RAM put in 2x2gb sticks. Ive also been able to get bf2 workin on high i maxed out the settings on the task bar nvidia icon and put all graphics on high in bf2 nd it runs very smoothly i think that 4gb ram helped :) .

Thanks for all your help Robbi ive got my solution will have to upgrade my motherboard and chip set sometime when i can. everything other than them are up to date in my computer.
