i like having the single channel and imo it would be even better if the enemy could hear you when using regular voip too, you're still talking right? only difference really is that you're talking into a radio. unfortunately i'm sure this can't be changed. did i hear they're working on automatically muting and deafening players who are dead? if they manage it that will solve your problem of dead enemies listening to your plans.

Oorah o.O
You could ask in the mumble for password though! That's what I did XD
Had it pretty awesome last night, all were playin' skirmish two squads on each team (more the less)
Would be awesome if we got 64/64 once xD (all using mumble)

yes, but it could be significant time until the versions of mumble with such gameplay altering factors are released to the public.

I've played alot of games with mumble, and its just so much more relaxing to use the 2 channels.

You feel less constrained. At the end of the day, its about what generates more teamwork, and having 2 channels makes it more able for you to spontaneously command/follow nearby teammates.

We've had around 70 people in the mumble channel at once, several times this week. We were almost full early last night, but once the R-COM event starting time approached, several people typed up "lets go", and it kind of killed the server.

Having said that, a few great guys stuck with it, and we actually had some really good games.
Hopefully tonight, we will be full of mumblers again :)

Regarding the 2 channels Rudd - The main problem is the admining of it. Apparently 10th community have got autoswitching implemented into their private mumble channel, but apparently it isnt easy to do with the PR server, because of its set up. Depending on what happens, if RT continues to become even more popular, then I may look at setting up our own private Mumble server, so that we can do that.

Also youre right about the novelty of Mumble wearing off on RT players, and its now being used in much better ways ( and with very little spam :) ) The fact that you can talk to enemies is a great gimmick to new mumble users, but it wouldn't be a bad thing for gameplay if it was no longer possible, so yes we could possibly set up 2 channels. Its just that organising 2 channels each with a squad leader channel, would be a nightmare atm.

i feel mumle has improved the game play and its starting to calm down on the server now.

it was great last nite to be able to talk and organise with others - we ended up trying to get the cache at the airfield in Archer as 2 squads in hmmv's GK style :) altho it initially fubar'ed we got it together and was good fun.

i cant wait to try collabrator shouting to brits to help find my goats :D

I'm all for completely disabling ingame VOIP because people still talk over it so the enemy can't hear it. I've found that when we used mumble for intra (inside) squad comms, the level of organisation was so much higher because you could here the SL shout orders AND that medic next to you tell you to cover that corner.

But then what will you use as a long range radio if your squad members die?

Yup. And you can talk about that before the fighting starts - according to someone on this forum, that's what RPs represent.

Edit: This time I had a squad where nobody was talking on mumble because they didn't want the enemy to hear them. Come on, why would you join a mumble server and not use it? That's BS.

As a greenhorn to Mumble (and PR in general) I must say that that short experience I had on your server was the best in a long time. Being able to talk to other people directly leads to much faster decision making, input from other squads who happen to pass by, better communication between squads and their transport and better overall planning of strategy...

Can anyone tell me when the next Mumble only night will be organised? VOIP is good, but Mumble only with SL's being the ones to do all important communications is so much more realistic!

It's technically mumble only whenever it's passworded. If someone doesn't have mumble, report them so that other mumblers can get on without having their space taken by a non-mumbler.

I got a problem with that...I don't have a mic, so am I screwed?

on this server, probably tbh. I think as long as you can hear on mumble you're ok...but I'm not sure what the official ruling on RT is.

Even if it turns out this server really isn't the place for you dude to teh lack of VOIP, there are plenty of others.

Get a mic ;)

But really, they're as low as 10 $, and not only do they increase the entire experience on your own end, but no matter how good a player you are, you loose most of your efficiency without a mic.

While it's not as bad when simply playing as a grunt, the loss of direct, immediate communications is fatal going up from grunts to Squad leaders to Asset crewmen.
EDIT: Ninja'd, but to continue with Rudd's comment, the server admins'll be slightly more lenient depending on the situation. If you can at least hear others through mumble, it's not so bad, and by avoiding SLing or crewing assets without a mic reduces the effeciency lost, so if you at least have mumble and can hear others and play as a Grunt, you would most likely be able to stay.

However, if there are others waiting to join the server, or if you don't even have mumble enabled, then you may be kicked to open up room for others.

Well i don't use mumble for main inter squad comms, only when crewman/messing around or talking to blue guys do i ever use it. I once found a cache because a whole squad of insurgents were blabbing on mumble.

i've been playing on the server while being unable to speak and people were ok with it, although i have medical reasons! i'm talking now but i could probably do better. but yeah get a mic, i was feeling pretty left out sometimes.

And that's the problem: People want to take advantage of not using mumble on a mumble server. If we disabled vanilla VOIP, people would HAVE to use it because of text messages being really ineffective.

Edit: I made anew thread on the RT forums. There is a better place to discuss this.
