Scoped rifles in CQB
Why do people insist on using scoped rifles in CQB? Everytime I play maps like Muttrah, Ramiel, etc there's only two or three people in the whole team using the rifleman with iron sights (me included). If you think the scoped rifles are always the best - you're wrong. Either you're not used to iron sights, or you're fighting people who are not. I've many times seen on Muttrah, and other CQB maps, whole squads getting wiped out because they don't have the weapons for the situation. I myself once defended an entire building from a USMC squad as a medic on Muttrah, and on another ocassion cleared an entire alley from an enemy squad. Not to mention the quicker draw time, which gives you a chance to supress, if not shoot, enemies at long range before they even have you in their reticle.
Iron sights are simply underused and underesstimated. Even missunderstood.
(However, I do agree upon that a tiny zoom for the iron sights would be reasonable)

Because people think scopes are better. I much prefer iron sights as you get better peripheral vision which gives you better situational awareness in game. Plus I learned to shoot with irons, I fear change!!!!
As you say 'a little zoom would be better' but not too much.

In Muttrah, i dont see much close combat action, its more like being on a rooftop and shooting enemys on the other rooftops.
I also like to use the scopes because im often a medic, and i like to use the scopes for a change

It's something about the BF2 engine that makes it difficult to see enemies with ironsights at times, all the jagged edges and how everything somehow seems very small.
When the map is really small I naturally go for the red dot or ironsights, (chinese jungle maps, insurgency mode etc.) but on maps like muttrah I need the scope to actually see what I'm shooting at.

I love iron sights. Absolutely adore them in fact. However generally I try to take the weapon to suit the situation, for ex. on Ramiel or any insurgency map I take optics as the range advantage you have over the insurgents is significant.
Only one I dislike is the G3 irons, never been able to kill anything with it so I will always take a scoped G3 and engage at range where the vast majority of the time i'll win.

Re: Scoped rifles in CQB
IRL you can shoot with both eye's open making the peripheral vision argument moot (which is why so many armies make magnified sights standard issue), but in PR its like looking through a straw while riding down a tunnel at midnight being towed by a horse with blinders on. If you held the rifle a few inches back and opened another eye then irons would be even worse. Its sort of a design feature in most combat sights.
But the main issue is that you can't focus on near/far objects so meh, I use an ACOG/SUSAT. Shoulder firing does the rest. To be honest with scopes you have a better view anyways cause there's no gun in the way.

To bad that the BF 2 engine cant support stuff like this on scopes. Red Orchestra is a infantryman’s wet dream. So may useful stuff in that engine.

Re: Scoped rifles in CQB
I try to love the iron sights, I really do, but I just can't.
I find them more of a burden than useful. I can do everything and more with a scoped rifle.
I choose optics because of those times when you can't effectively engage enemies with iron sights. You say iron sights are ideal for close quarters, and I agree. However, I can just as easily kill nearby combatants by firing from the hip.
Having a scope comes in handy at those times when you need to reach out and "touch" that individual on that adjacent rooftop or on top of that berm out in the distance, when an iron sight just wouldn't suffice.

Hm, I personally prefer a Red Dot Sight, Because I am usually a Combat Engineer, and if I'm not on the US/USMC side, I can work with the Iron Sights.
Without regard, use the different fire modes for CQB, such as Burst or Full Auto.

I Loooooooooooooove irons
G3, M16, Ak, SA80! GIVE EM TOO MEEEE!
I don't think either should do the other's job for gameplay reasons, I like that I can go "scopes, hole, Irons with me we're gonna assault"
But I do think Scopes CQB capabilities aren't adequately represented ingame, but to me eye there are only 2 ways to fix this:
1) have an undepoyed mode like LMGs. (I'd vote for removeal of binos.
2) Change how teh scope works completely, kinda like CA but not quite.
Basically, you'd have a view just like the Aimpoints but with the scope, click again and you're now in X4 zoom. its not perfect....but it might do.

Both those suggestions sound good!
Right now i can already fight ok with scopes in CQB, but it should be better.
i like to use iron sights more in a suppresive role

i vote for undeployed mode. "shoulder" the weapon and look down the side or what ever, would be good and yes remove binos. got a scope anyways.

Or another thing we can do is remove the ammo bag, inceidenary grenade, or even frag grenades. but i say the binos or incidenary should be removed

CQB isn't only face-to-face combat. It's very hard to shoot from the hip and hit at, let's say, 50m.Silly_Savage wrote:I try to love the iron sights, I really do, but I just can't.

Yeah but then what's the point? You have an extra 0.35 seconds on them, but there's a settle time anyways so speed is completely irrelevant. May as well just wait them out.

On the contrary, I find it relatively easy. For anything at a greater range, I'd just pull up my scope.Farks wrote:CQB isn't only face-to-face combat. It's very hard to shoot from the hip and hit at, let's say, 50m.
And thus, I prove my point.

Re: Scoped rifles in CQB
I use scopes because my usual engagement distance is greater than what I could achieve with an Iron Sight.
CQC is a no brainer... but that doesnt happen very often. If I have any idea an enemy is around a corner/room... i'd be going in with a grenade first and shoot from the hip. Shooting from the hip + the deviation actually makes it pretty easy to score some hits on a close end fight. I also don't have to wait to pull a weapon up AND the deviation.
I also support the idea of a "undeployed" mode, since i never saw the reason for giving regular grunts bino's anyway.

Re: Scoped rifles in CQB
Some of the scopes have the backup sights, like the SUSAT, Elcan (just saying) and the Red Dot for some reason.. those could be the "deployed" mode.
Unfortunately the ACOG model is not featuring ironsights.
