Friend from Foe
Ive been playing for about 2 weeks now in different game modes, and to this day.. the only way I can make out my friends and enemies, is by the gun they're carrying. With the exception of Insurgent modes, I can't for the life of me distinguish friend from foe. The LODs at great distances don't give me a clue as to who or what I'm targeting. The only foolproof method ive found, is to wait until they start shooting at ME. Then I just pray that I have a better shot (:
But honestly Ive just been looking for m4a1 and g3a3 LOD models in AAS for the past few days, and that's the only thing that actually works for me. The shades of color on the uniforms between MEC and USA, to me, are almost identical at long range. So could anyone provide some advice? I know it must take a while to get used to, but I'm having absolutely no luck.

My graphics settings are maxx. Unless there's something I'm missing LOL.
Idk what's wrong with me, I'm always hesitating.. making for SURE it's someone I plan on killing. It's too late before I decide who it is i'm looking at.

There is a bug right now where if a guy on your team picks up an enemy kit he also gets the enemy helmet. This has lead to most of my TKs. I would prefer no picking up of enemy kits to eliminate this bug but that's probably just me.

A lot of times at distance, certain factions look similar in certain terrain and the weapon often gives it away as to who it is.
One way to check is, if you have good orientation, is to bind your map key somewhere easily accessible and just tap in and out of it real quick to see if there are any friendly dots roughly in the area you are looking at suspected enemy.
Just a small tip, otherwise it comes down to experience.

on a serious note, on close/middle distance your best friend is camo colours and weapons, on long ranges its getting harder, because lots of detail are not rendering
another give away is a weapon stance, each factions silhouette look a bit different
regularly check your map, open it, estimate approximate distance to closest friendlies and orientiers where they are, then update your info every 30/60 seconds
in the end it comes to your game experience, a bit later you wont have much problem with it

Same here.Spaz wrote:If I'm not sure I just keep my sight on the person to see if I can see the name or not.
If that fails then I just shoot and hope I don't get kicked.

Also if they're far enough away and don't notice you you can pull out your awesome GPS tracking system and see if there is a friendly dot there or not.

Re: Friend from Foe
Always move with a squad, and report any contacts you see, the more expirienced players should tell you if it's friendly. Not a perfect solution, but i use it when carrying un-scoped weapons and it works great. Just report the contact, and if your squad opens fire, it's safe to do the same.
Also you could always pull out your binoculars, check your map, or hold your crosshair over them to see a name.

Get a mouse with a higher resolution and/or lower the sensitivity when needed(if the mosue can do it on the fly ofc).LithiumFox wrote:btw... anyone know how to smooth out controls when using unscoped weapons?

I always hit friendlies in this case, never hit enemies. I never remember this universal law at the time, so when I don't get a FF/TK message, I don't realize that it's an enemy and that I missed.Johncro wrote:Fire a warning shot, if it hits the dude and no warning like "Check Fire" comes up take the kill! It comes with experience, i can usually always identify friend and foe. You just need a sense of where your friendlies are and what the enemy looks like.

Re: Friend from Foe
Friendly identification on the fly is about one thing - Second opinion.
just go on Voip
"hey bob, you see that dude on the hill at SE?"
"yeah"
"is he enemy?"
"nope"
"better not shoot him then"
"dunno, he looks pretty mean..."
etc
Your SL's GLTD is very useful in this context. Same kind of thing for civilians.
and though its unrealistic, placing markers in relation to enemy contact, and observe markers to unidentified contact will give you an instant yes/no identification if you check ur map.
But best thing to do is when you see friendly troops, state "Friendlies at North" so everyone will have that knowledge in teh back of their head when they need it. A running commentary is good for any relevant observations.
