Even better, you could just use the preexisting stumps, snags and low brick walls that are already present on maps.

I don't understand everyone's obsession with ghillie suits -- they're not commonly employed by conventional forces. PR has been and is moving away from 'Special Forces' things, hence the removal of the Spec Ops class and the ghillie suit from the sniper.

Some bushes render at larger distances (Qinling), and are quite OK to hide in, on urban maps, you can crouch in a building.

That's exactly what i was going for. Thank you Spec.

Anyway, I know for certain that such a thing isn't hardcoded. On the mod that I was talking about earlier, the kit used a mine and placed it, and your charachter in-game turned into a moving bush, that turned and hopped up and down, and it was awesome.

Instead of a flimsy bush, make a bush, or rather many types of bushes of the same general shape and color, and then make a ghillie suit accordingly. Of course with that hint of man and rifle hidden within.

And hey, if it turns out that it isnt needed or just not wanted by the Devs and the community, so be it. I was just thinking about mods that I have played before and this was an idea for a ghille.

Have you ever gotten a kill with a marksmen kit at a distance of 500m? That takes skill. Try it some time and it is 1337 stuff.

What if the sniper can deploy the pile of dirt and a few branches and have to shovel it to build up a small pile of greenery like we used to build sandbags? Just thinking out loud here.

I have an idea y dont we wait for pr 2 (hopefully)lol and have gullie suits in there.

I rarely see snipers doing their job of recon, and I can achieve a similar level of recon on most servers by using team chat as an infantry man or an apc driver or whatnot, they're largely obsolete. I often keep my view very still to just wait for the slightest twitch in the distance and then zoom in for the kill, this works very well in a largely undynamic(sp?) world. Basically, people shouldn't get new shiney things when they don't know how to use what they've got.

Currently snipers seem an asset waste to me, you can get by just fine with some designated marksmen and people calling out positions.

Arguments for snipers:
A few rounds I have played as a sniper and it is quite satisfying, I gave intel and got a few kills (ARs, medics, people on MGs)


Overall, the PR maps just aren't big enough to incorporate snipers, since people can quite easily wander into snipers scope. People misuse the class and don't provide intel when they are using it. The kills are too easy to do and when people do drop a few enemies they don't relocate and then come back to the forums wondering why they were spotted, and when they do that they destroy any credibility the people who might have reasonable arguments have to reintroduce it.

Finally, the vegetation in PR doesn't as such support a snipers role, it's normally trees and bushes dotted around making anything else look very out of place, exposing a sniper trying to hide, hiding in a bush works but it works just as well without a ghillie suit.
What is it now ? Its not lethal enough, because the AR has a range that matches that of a sniper, or it is too easy ? The sniper kit should also simulate sniper training to some degree and therefore be really accurate, by the same token you could say the AR15 is too accurate or the saw.

But yes, too many can not use it, or use it on a map where it is a bad pick because the view distance does not allow you to take advantage of its range. But a sniper that gets 20 - 1 kills is helping the team, especially if he focuses on high priority targets and sets up the way to deny the enemy cover when a friendly squad is attacking.

Yeah, they had naked ladies and Homer Simpson on the Claymores. It was just naughty.

And Yes Ralfi I am Ignoring him. I dont find taking a knee and shooting someone 400-600 meters away very realistic. I would like to be able to shoot while prone, in a bush/shrub/hollowed out log/other creative type of cover.
