Hard coded
Hi Guys,
I have never really understood what the advantages and disadvantages of something being hardcoded, or infact what hard coded is. And why we cant edit the BF2 engine? This is not me picking hairs, just wishing to understand PR and its engine. Would someone just explain it to me in an un robot way?
Regards Guys
Rob

Re: Hard coded
The modders can't change certain things because DICE included it in the source code (which the R-DEVS don't have), not as a script.
Even if they could reverse engineer the executable file, it would be illegal.

it also covers things that cannot be changed for legal reasons.
I think its a way for EA to maintain control over their older releases to ensure they don't interfere with new releases or something.

But can't PR make some sort of deal with EA to use the engine to its full use?

Re: Hard coded
What would PR give them as part of the deal? Money is extremely unlikely. Advertising? Well every1 who plays PR already owns vBf2...robert090993 wrote:But can't PR make some sort of deal with EA to use the engine to its full use?

Re: Hard coded
Well since the free release of Armored fury and Euro force, PR is allowed to use stuff from there. When the full game dies out maybe the same will happen. That means more than 64 players on a server and more than 8 in a vehicle.
I'm willing to pay for that.

Re: Hard coded
DICE/EA could never give away the source code for their engine, unless of course there was a massive payment, as there's a whole load of juicy stuff in there that they don't want stolen by other companies. Even if a mod team did offer a large fee, I expect they'd be very wary of selling all the hard code, it could pretty easily be leaked to anyone else.

Ok confirm this rumor, but I heard somewhere that a PR standalone was in the making? I tried to find it in the fourms but I couldnt.
