Advanced explosion effects

Post by rampo »

Searched the thread and couldn't find anything simular to this so heres the idea

(Idea.1) Currently when an explosion like a grenade, rocket or a mortar happens to blow up close to you, you only get the normal blured screen, now that can't be too realistic and the idea in this suggestion would be that everytime an explosion occurs next to you or just behind a cover for example a roadblock barricade the screen might completely turn to black for a matter of about 1-1,5 seconds and you would get a high picth sound whistling in your ears for a while. After you recover from the black screen you would have a normal supression effect whit you for a matter of 2-3 seconds

(Idea.2) Another more radical effect would be that when a large explosion happens close to you, the character goes to a crouched position and is unable to use his weapon or do anything for that matter for a few seconds(this includes everything in Idea.1)

hmm bit of a stupid idea IMO. If you're close enough to the explosion that it goes completely black then you will be injured anyway so the red blood effect will happen. Dont really see any point in it.

Well its supposed to be easier to happen than of getting injured and why wouldnt the blood effect just follow the black screen? and remember this effect would also happen whit a small cover that an explosion cant penetrate

i never had grenades exploding next to me, but have "experience" in gas explosion in small room after which glass in window nearly broke into pieces, you really become almost deaf for a while and hear something like high pitch noise

Yea i think we can rule out that out but i still heavil support the high-pitch sound, it happens

In python can we connect the reason for taken damage to the supression effect and can we have different kinds of supression effects based on the "projectile"?

Might as well give explosives concussive effects borrowed from BF2 flashbangs.

its the sound of hearing damage ;) when a sudden sound blast hits your ears you hear that ringing because of all the scilia in your ear being pushed over so hard they stay down for a while and slowly stand back up. the ringing is from the ones that are most likely dieing, so it is common that the specific pitch you hear will be the last time you ever hear it.

and yes i set off a cap bomb in the bathroom once, i went deaf for about a second then had ringing for half an hour

good idea, i like 1, 2 is a bit extreme but good maybe for those that actually get damaged by the explosion but arn't close enough to die.

i like the loud whistle noise, of course i have never experienced it but if its realistic and proven then i think it would add a really cool affect.

Well we all know the whistling sound is perfetly realistic(for a ton of times even a small bang close haves my ears whistling a bid) but what about the black screen?

A dim view for a few seconds would be realistic, you'd most likely be squinting.
