Why Rotterdam? That area is 50km away from it.

Rotterdam is on a very tactical positon, if you own it you cut of the hague and other city's in holland from the south.

But it is not a battle for rotterdam now is it.

EDIT:

lets refeur to exhibit A shall we:

The red area is the proximate position of the Loonse en Drunense duinen.

the greyish area is the position of rotterdam. the stripes are the blocked positions that would cut off "Fortress Holland" wich would be a baricaded afsluitdijk, a flooded ijsel and a blocked/blownup moerdijk bridge/tunnel. what remains open would be that open spot, well away from rotterdam. so no its not a battle of rotterdam. does that solve the question? :P

EDIT v2, did not include flevoland in the defence as i have no idea if they would leave it to fall or try to blow up those tiny bridges and locks we have over there.

either way it was to show the difference. I do love it when im "almost" right tho :P

but why dig in all the way down there tho? is that to alow allied reinforcents to catch up, and making sure the dutch/ allies dont get caught off in the event of a breakout form germany?

Would this be cool?

Rotterdam was the first biggest harbour.
Now China has it....
Wouldn't it be cool that there would be a battle in China harbour so Rotterdam gets the honour again?
Just wondering :D

Why does Rotterdam need to be captured in a tactical way? Answer: Because it's one of the main harbors of the country, when you need weapons, you need a lot of money. The Netherlands does not have a own weapon factory, the most of it comes from the U.S and Germany. When Rotterdam is captured your infrastructure is blown away for de most part. Holland won't be able then to supply (properly) their forces in the south of Holland.

Also the southern Netherlands are cut of, because when you have barricaded the moerdijk bridge, and other bridges, the supply trucks are like sitting ducks for ground-attack airplanes. The soldiers at the peel-raamstelling (and other troops in the southern Netherlands) will be cut off from the remaining troops in "fort Holland" when Rotterdam is captured.

And what with the oil supplies near Rotterdam at Pernis? The Dutch won't be able to move their troops fast with vehicles but they have top deploy and move by feet. Rotterdam is just a very tricky city/position.

Here a map:

Image

The black stripes are the main defences, the red/orange stripes are the occupied areas. The black "graffiti" stripe is the Dutch/Belgium border. The red/orange dot is Rotterdam.

I mean that rotterdam has to be in the map, but a specific map would be great!
