Based on what, exactly . . . ?

.303 British Service (Mk 7 Ball)
Cartridge Dimensions: 7.7 x 56mm
Projectile Weight: 174 grains (11.3 g)
Muzzle Velocity: 2,440 ft/s (740 m/s)
Muzzle Energy (if you believe in it): 2,310 ft-lb (3131.89J)

7.62mm NATO / .308 Winchester (US M80 Ball)
Cartridge Dimensions: 7.62 x 51mm
Projectile Weight: 149 grains (9.7 g)
Muzzle Velocity: 2800 fps (853 m/s) [M14; 22 inch barrel]
Muzzle Energy: 2593 ft-lb. (3516J)

7.62mm Mosin-Nagant / Soviet Rimmed (7N13 Enhanced Penetration Ball)
Cartridge Dimensions: 7.62 x 54mm
Projectile Weight: 145 grains (9.4 g)
Muzzle Velocity: 2716.53 fps (828 m/s)
Muzzle Energy: INA

It was and is a good cartridge, but it's not "a short-chamber, Boxer Henry .45 calibre miracle."

If the differences are that unappreciable in real life, then in the game they're going to mean even less.

Yeah, but the M249 has longer barrel so it should have greater muzzle velocity shouldn't it?

RHYS4190 wrote:And the Le enfeild 303, rifle is unrealistic as well, in game it take 2 shot's to kill. This caliber bullet is way way more powerfull then the 7.62. This bullet is so powerfull it can go straight through a tree 9feet thick with out stoping.

So why is it so weak ingame?.
Start providing sources for what you are stating.

No it doesn't. The M249/FN Minimi in standard configuration has a barrel length of 465mm linky where as the M16A2 has a barrel length of 508mm linky.

Additionally, what affects stopping power is energy transfer. And thats complicated and when you get into differences between rounds its not just velocity and weight. You have to take into account if the rounds tumble, fragment or expand, how much energy the round still has when it overpenetrates (as most of the rounds being discussed here will pass right through a human), what effect armour has upon the round, what effect what else the soldier is wearing has on the round (IIRC some time ago there was a Turkish study which showed that soldiers who were shot in the chest while wearing chest rigs with magazines in were generally injured more badly), what type of round it is, etc.

In short there are far too many variables in play to make any meaningful "realistic" system.

For more information I suggest this article.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Yea don't test most of the developers, alot of them have experience with different guns.

Also, do IRL insurgents use those kinds of weapons? WW2 weapons?

Yes, some of the things they find in weapons caches could do well at auction if they were in better condition.

[Edit]Here's two threads on that very subject
