But if i had to guess i would say the military is trying to keep stuff like this a secret. If there were lots of photos of how exactly the US snipers are operating in Iraq/Afghanistan, I'm sure the insurgents would be dying to get their hands on those photos.

though pretty much 1st time i see periscope "in the field" and those guys are far from ordinary infantry
rare usage+usage by SF= i doubt its spread enough to be used in pr

regarding whole sniper thing, there is(or was) actually no "marksman" position, guys with SVD in squad= snipers, so technically SF snipers and conscript snipers have same name, there is no "marksman" term, i seen "senior shooter", but he is equipped with ak+ugl or ak with night sights, like this

we have an army reform going now, who knows how new schemes will look like, maybe there will be "true" snipers on company/batallion level
