so your basically suggesting a Chinese City map with high rise buildings since all your points have pretty much no relevance to any other type of mapsniperrocks wrote:I apologize, but I must resurrect
Especially since PR 0.9 is coming out, I would like to add some suggestions that could make maps that actually look like China!
Don't get me wrong, I love the maps currently featuring the PLA. I don't want to give a bad impression or have others say "do it yourself" because to tell you the truth...I'm horrible with the BF2 editor. :\
I will just name some small (or big) additions that could potentially help new PLA maps (hoping it comes out in 0.9!) look more realistic!
1. Pollution
Yes, China is quite polluted. I been to China a couple of times and I have to say, I never seen a clear blue sky before.
These two reference pictures are good examples of what I am talking about

On a better day: http://www.china-tour.cn/images/China_P ... Museum.jpg
Operation Blue Pearl seems to have the right idea

2. Wide roads
With a huge population, there's bound to be wide roads.
Most main roads include 2-3 lanes on both sides, if not more
http://www.treehugger.com/china-traffic-j01.jpg
Then, on both sides nearest to the buildings, there is usually a bike lane making the road even wider
http://www.wisechat.com/images/China_1419.JPG
http://www.asianews.it/files/img/CHINA_Bike.jpg<-- notice the trees!
3. Buildings
Of course, due to China's massive population, not a lot of people live in houses, but rather apartments. And for sure, no one lives in houses as shown in BF2
Mentioned before, huge skyscrapers do not enhance game play, which is true. But there are cities in China where there are buildings only 5-10 stories tall

http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/533198 ... 4B24B4128C
^ These are similar to the MEC buildings
I hope this helped! I also hope to see a future PLA map!![]()

Re: China maps that look like China
Based on the available statics and the limitations of the engine, rural China is the most feasible environment.
You could make a Muttrah/Ramiel sized Sunset City, but nothing close to the real Shanghai/Beijing.
IronTaxi's WIP map Jhanzou uses new statics that fit in with the vanilla ones to create an old-style Chinese town, so efforts are being made.
BTW, have you read your PMs or played 0.87 yet?

Lol, so you stand by the claim that the PR forums have "completely devolved into a bunch of elitist pricks"?SleepyHe4d wrote:Edit: Well **** I didn't even realize this thread was necroed. I guess that completely destroys any thoughts I had.![]()

No, no, no. I'm saying since those posts were so long ago, they hold no meaning on how the forum is now. Even if the thread was a recent thread though, I don't think the forums are like that because of those two posts that saved it. Was just saying the first few posts seemed very elitist prick to me and at first glance made the whole forum seem like that.Snazz wrote:Lol, so you stand by the claim that the PR forums have "completely devolved into a bunch of elitist pricks"?

Also, no, I didn't notice I had any pms. I'll check them out and I'll even try out .87 if I get the time to freakin install bf2 and patches, then DL and install PR. ><

Re: China maps that look like China
Yes, more maps of what china really is and not the stereotypical western idea of china would be cool. But this is of course important for every map there is. Maybe the china maps is a little bit worse in this aspect than the middle eastern maps as I know many of them like Fallujah is made with a real place in mind.

Well, not really xD I know that high rise buildings really wouldn't help the game, I suggesting more of a neighbourhood/market kinda thing. Like buildings aren't too tall, probably around 5 stories tall max. As for pollution and wide roads, it's okay right?
shameless plug
its probably not what people have in mind..
WHOA! I think west city has the idea I'm trying to convey, maybe without those olden day houses though
The housing blocks are dead on! For the first one, if you put garages under every window on the ground floor (apparently that's a way to market in China) it would look just like it!
I love the map!

Re: China maps that look like China
Originally, I was going to do a Chinese insurgency map, with what boils down to the militia (with Chinese voices and skins) vs the PLA. It was to represent an uprising of some kind as a response to US/UK invasion.
However, the idea died because a few people reminded me it might make the Chinese government block us out, and I don't want to ruin it for the Chinese community members (all 3 or 4 of them I've seen).

It's dotted with a few cities connected by major roads.

You could still do some kind of Muslim insurgents vs Chinese forces arrengement. China has plenty of Muslims in its neighbourhood. And not all Muslims would be aligned with the (apparent) MEC/China alliance.Expendable Grunt wrote:Originally, I was going to do a Chinese insurgency map, with what boils down to the militia (with Chinese voices and skins) vs the PLA. I've been to china once, and I've watched Paul Merton in china - never once did he go in a desert, or past one, and he travelled all over the country. mountains, fields, cities, forest, and mountains = china.

Just compare the picture by you to danke's picture and you can see even your picture does have desert in it, the color's just a tad differentHerbiie wrote:Not that much.

A tad. Not much though - it's almost completely Forest or city - if we had a Chinese desert map it would be stupid. Someone can make one if they want though. A Chinese urban map would be pretty cool though.rampo93(FIN) wrote:Just compare the picture by you to danke's picture and you can see even your picture does have desert in it, the color's just a tad different
