PR and XFIRE compatibility
Ive noticed recently that certain mods on the engine has xfire support...
for example, instead of 2142, it shows first strike
Is it at all possible for a proposal to xfire to add this to their system?

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
Unfortunately not, as PR inevitably uses the bf2.exe, and thats what X-fire reads. According to X-fire, at least. Its been suggested before, but they can't do it

Thinking about it, i'm not sure if they tried it with the PR.exe, I haven't dug far enough.

Unless anything has changed since then, it doesn't look possible.xfb4it

I checked this mod, and we are unable to support it separately from BF2. If there are any other changes in this mod, feel free to create another thread. Thanks!

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
Been talked about before but this is probly not going to happen unless a new way to start PR is found.

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
Pr just needs its own renamed Bf2.exe?
Would that be possible?

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
You can easily modify Xfire to start PR instead of BF2, this also works form VBF2 servers as it can be started "from a mod".
Ofcos it will show that your still playing bf2, but atleast you can start your game from xfire.

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
I don't think it would be too hard to make Xfire distinguish which particular mod is currently being played. If the command line, which started bf2.exe, contains string "+modPath mods/pr" then the mod in question is Project Reality. The same logic applies to the other mods too (mods/fh2, mods/xpack, mods/poe2 etc). As xfire have to be started with administrator credentials in order to enable support for Xfire InGame, it will already have all the rights needed to read the command line of every processes running in the user's system.

I made a new thread on their forums, perhaps it might be able to be supported now.

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
I have my doubts that the pr.exe will allow xfire support ... as its not the windowing system, BF2 still is. BF2 is what xfire opens inside and therefore is the process its communicating too ... not the pr.exe, which is just a shell. It may be they can detect the pr.exe running and use it as an icon or indicator though in the list ?
One strange thing I noticed though , which suggests that xfire picks things up from the registry, is that it wont work in my CD version now ... only Steam version ... and thats because my install path for BF2 reads the steam version.
We could maybe work with them on this one to provide them what they need.

Re: PR and XFIRE compatibility
nah Pr.exe just does some cool stuff then runs bf2.exe, i'm wondering if the devs could make a copy of bf2.exe and call it something else allowing it to be unique for xfireFighter wrote:already there.
