Well,texturing R77 is not easy!!!
But MiG-29 can use this missles!!!Last version(R-27AE) have AMRAAM seek!!!
~50% has done!!!Need fixing textures...

You can apply this to the head of your missile saving a few tris
And ye, a 1024x1024 texture is huge for a missile, a 1024x1024 texture can skin a entire APC
512^2 tops but would probably want to go smaller than that tbh, realistically speaking 256^2 or 128^2 would do.
