Gunner position of attack helos
As of late it's been rather frustrating as a chopper gunner, since finding that infantry in Muttrah is problematic enough and I keep wondering, don't the most attack helo's sport Thermal's /infrared system for the gunners to spot targets in a dense city.
Since at this version HAT's keep downing more attack helos then AA, probably due to the fact that chopper has to remain in stationary position more or less without laser, in my case since guiding those LG missiles to the target is extremely hard at speeds +80 game units.
So sort of suggestion / question. Is there a similar system in builds for 0.9 or is this thought to be too unbalancing system for the game?

The thermal vision is most likely hardcoded but the combined arms minimod has developped something simular by making the image shown for the gunner as negative colors.
And HAT's wont take down cobras so easily as long as they don't hover, this is a common problem whit some new pilots who don't realise that when you keep the heli in a same spot whitout moving you'll be a HAT bait.
Best way to use cobras in muttrah in my opinnion is hit and run any lazes you recieve from ground troops, it isn't hard when theres a good spotter and the gunner knows how to lock a fire&forget missile in the laser.

Its not really, but it looks pretty cool, not sure how much it helps but a bit I think.

Problem is, rather rarely lasers are provided at the servers where I tend to play and seems to be rather same at few other servers i check out...rampo93(FIN) wrote:The thermal vision is most likely hardcoded but the combined arms minimod has developped something simular by making the image shown for the gunner as negative colors.

Add to that the super fragility of the attack helos that seem to be more or less same as a LB in terms of health amount.. Can't these things handle up to .50's at least with ease? along with Apache being able to sustain fire from 20mm's. Since at this moment you can down an apache with like 6-8 12.7mm rounds, making it go critical and boom..

The heli could either survive a ton of fire (as has happened in real life situations) or also go down with a couple of lucky ones. Problem is in game that the latter option assuming they would go down in almost nothing has been chosen.

Thats why i allways have a spotter in my CAS squad. Makes a firesupport squad truely effective.W4lt3r89 wrote:Problem is, rather rarely lasers are provided at the servers where I tend to play and seems to be rather same at few other servers i check out...
Oh and try something else than peliutka

It doesnt just look epic it does help, the light contrast makes it much easier to spot a MEC soldier running in North City without the brown colored camo on the brick walls of the houses

I Agree on this one...Elektro wrote:It doesnt just look epic it does help, the light contrast makes it much easier to spot a MEC soldier running in North City without the brown colored camo on the brick walls of the houses
Of course its not identical to a real one, but still, its a nice and easy thing to do and it does realy help, but "moddig" it ourself will make us kick by pb i assume...since its a file mod...

Alex showed me the Post Processing effects that needed to be changed and such once, but I'm pretty sure that you have to change some of the server files in order to accomplish CA's FLIR effect, which would mean that everyone (including the server) would need to be running off of these alternative files.

True, tis the menu_server file that is changed to create this.

Alex did the coding part. Same as with some more hud images.

It stays on FLIR. I don't really see the problem with it though.Adetter wrote:will it be like that u can switch it on and off or is it just one posibility...

Why is this not in the game by default?Alex6714 wrote:Its not really, but it looks pretty cool, not sure how much it helps but a bit I think.

Well the PR devs have full access to CA files to use as they see fit. Ask them, because none of use would know this answer.Leopardi wrote:Why is this not in the game by default?
It seems that they are incredibly busy though, so it's probably going to be akin to asking Obama to tell you what color is best in a letter.

It doesn't show the warm things like poeple or vehicles as white but just in negative colors, so it just looks a bit like FLIR but you do not get the advantages a real FLIR would give to you.Leopardi wrote:Why is this not in the game by default?
But the black&white view in PR now looks normal and works just perfect

Is there a possible codable fix for that issue, or are we stuck with the evil engine once again?rampo93(FIN) wrote:It doesn't show the warm things like poeple or vehicles as white but just in negative colors
