.87 Ramiel freezing

Post by Inca_Killa »

Description:
I've played several times today/yesterday on RAMIEL. After a short period of time my computer will FREEZE and I will get looping sounds, however if I wait long enough it eventually ends and I lose connection to the server. however before this (not right at the start of the map usually) it will begin to "lag" in a sense before totally freezing like detailed above. This has happened in the city area, in the hills area, and in the main area in APC's and on foot(Note: there was an empty APC at main). The most interesting complication though is that this NEVER happens on the insurgent side.
When I froze and exited PR, I used BF2cleaner to clean my video cache and returned to the server(chicago HC Insurgency) and came in insurgents. I did a little infantry action and also drove a bomc car through the city, and the mountains and then back into the city where I kamakazed on a Humvee  . I switched sides to get back with my squad and soon after froze. I was fed up by this point. Ramiel is the only map that this error occurs on so far.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Be American on Ramiel, and go about your business until you get LAWLPWND by Bf2.

Screenshots / Video:

Tested On:
Ramiel 64 Insurgency- Chicago Hardcore Insurgency v0.87

-Ramiel
-Insurgency
-Ramiel
-.87

Video Settings (if needed):
All Medium. No problems with all other maps including graphic intensive maps such as Korengal, ...that one underplayed armor map with chinese and british, and others
Nvidia 8800 GTS Video Card
2 GB Corsair Ram

I used to have a lot of lag on ramiel until I bought another two gig ram... Now everything's fine.

Did you play a whole round without freezing? Maybe you were just lucky when you played as ins and when you switched back it crashed... Get what I mean? :)

Same problem here.

I was playing Ramiel, and was getting dropped from a Blackhawk with my squad. The moment the Blackhawk starts moving, the computer lags and lags, and when it finally lands again, the game freezes and doesn't respond. I have 2 GB RAM and 9800 GTX (Nvidia). Weird problem.

Try changing your shadow and light settings to low or off.

Update:
I ran into the same issue on Falujah West, Chicago Hardcore -- as insurgents -_-
This time it was a full system freeze so I turned my computer off and cleaned it; that could have been the problem. Also that I forgot to set my fan speed to 100% on my GPU.
Another annoying fact is that nothing intense was happening, I played through 2 rounds or so before this and right as I left main on a bomb car, looking at a wall did I freeze.

485w total 32 amps on the 12v rail.

It happened again on Ramiel, medium settings still but I cleaned my computer extensivelly. I forgot to set my fans to 100% but its idling at 55 C anyways so it should be fine, even at higher loads... Also I've played over 10 matches on ramiel before this patch without a problem; however i'm not sure if this problem began directly after the patch was applied. I know my ram is severely stressed. 2 GB being used up to 90-99% almost constantly. But it runs fine on most maps other than ramiel (most of the time..) Anyone have any tweaks to increase performance? I've closed all unessential processes etcetcetc so something more bf2 specific would be what i'm looking for I think.
note: I already have bf2 optimizer and ran it recently.
Update:
Was playing on Al Basrah after a full round of sunset city and a little of op. archer. I froze again and this time wasn't able to get out of it(forced restart.) More soundlooping and i'm starting to notice a trend, at least for the most part. Everytime except once I was IN an apc or CLOSE to one. Only once as an insurgent was I not near one at all to my knowledge(just exited main.) This time I was zooming in on some allies on a car and BAM freeze. What the hell? I'm really beginning to get frustated. This never happened in previous version and just recently became such a reacurring problem.
Update 2: Was playing Al Basrah again as insurgents. I had an RPG and I hit the Scimitar, went prone to reload as he sprayed bullets in my direction. Freeze. I was going to kill him too, so ... ANNOYING!
Update 3: I think I know what it is now... Just recently I installed new video drivers (8800 GTS) and forgot that I did. I'm not 100% sure that these are causing the problems, but I'm hoping its the culprit. Going to revert to my 100% working video driver and test later today.
Update 4: I reinstalled my old video drivers and that completely fixed the problem. 4 hrs of gameplay no freezes whatsoever, including ramiel and falujah west. NVIDIA LEARN TO MAKE DRIVERS PROPERLY! I suggest reverting back to driver 169.21 for the 8800 series.
Lock this thread if you want, problem solved.

NECRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I rebumped because this post is several months old, lol.
The reason for my problems earlier was updating my drivers to the newest(not as new now) nvidia drivers. Before I simply just reverted to old drivers, but i'm starting to feel antsy about having such old drivers, not to mention i'm going to be perticipating in a beta soon and I might be required to update my drivers. I don't want to go without PR for the beta :( (.
So first off, I'd like to ask fellow PR members who own a 8 geforce series (8800's) if they have had similar problems(read first post) and if they did, how they dealt with the problem. There must be something I can turn off/tweak to fix this, because on old drivers I can run the game on medium. I do not want to run low shaders etc if at all possible, like I said I know my rig can run it medium.
Tomorrow I will update my video drivers if anyone has a proposed solution.
Thanks, Killa.
EDIT: I just realized that this is in the bug section, and was confirmed at most likely not being a bug. Could a mod move it to PC-Software/OS section? Thanks.

In store they were giving out the incorrect rebate form ($10 off, not $25 like Macy's website said). Macy's website was not
working to print out the $25 rebate form yesterday, and no one with the 1-800 customer service line will help.
Does ANYONE have the $25 Pandigital rebate form from Macys that they can send me? It was for this past weekend's sales
