Add Range to GLTD and remove from marker

Post by Startrekern »

A rangefinder should be added to the GLTD and removed from the move marker. The move marker should purely be a map reference and not a magic floating set of numbers that tells you precisely how far you are from the target. That said, binoculars should have some system of being able to guess the range somewhat accurately (bars)

On the other hand your depth sense can never be transferred to a video game as it takes 10-13 years to develop the skill in real life and you know nearly how many meters it is to different things not as accurately as the markers but I wouldnt say more then 20-50 meters. Ofc when it starts to get far you can only guess.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

Removing the meters on markers would be nice and spotters would become really used also it be more realistic this way it looks like the soldier is wearing a kit almost like in GRAW

Yeah, 3D markers should be removed and showed only on map. That would be great.

Nothing spoils immersion so much as magic floating icon. Would really like to see removal of it.

10-13 years? wat? it isnt that hard.

i agree though, removing the numbers would add a little realism.

Not very constructive. ;]

You can as well say "leave old rallies mechanic, but don't use them if you don't like it", or to get better immersion can also quite server or uninstall PR after hitting dead status. That's not the point.

The thing is that not using 3D markers while your enemy can is plain stupid, because you will just be in much worse position.

IIRC they took it away, because you could see it on your screen bevor your GTLD were fully deployed... (like the current reddots, you can see the dot and after that the weapon is moved into the correct position)

OT: I would like the idea... and think that
3D markers should be removed and showed only on map
is a very good idea too...

we just had a round without a SL (bug: nobody could take the officerkit; nor place markers; nor had this fat number) but it was still working... just using the compas or describe the positions... and you had to stick with your squad

Why was the range finding feature even removed in the first place?!? Can't be just for cosmetics?

marker should still be 3d and on the map, just without the distance, that would be the best compromise imo since you cannot show people where to aim or go in game.

I agree, we should remove the markers from the hud and only have them on the map.
Or at the very least remove the distance underneath them.

Then give the affected kits a GLTD with a rangefinder instead of binoculars.

I'd much prefer the player skill of estimating distances ingame should be nurtured

Let me make it clear that this suggestion is not about removing markers in any way, just the distances that are attached to them. The suggestion for removing markers has already been suggested anyway, many times.
