Re: FOB splash damage
Wouldn't it be a bit strange if you knife/melee a radio and it instantly catches fire? Then again, structures don't just explode once you knife a radio

Really? Bet you some Haitans would disagree.dtacs wrote:Not sure if its hardcoded but I totally agree.
Destroying a sandbag wall/camnet structure IRL would not cause an explosion hurting a soldier.
Too soon?
Anyways, I've never really had this problem. To me it seems like 1 knife and run is a simple concept. As for those rare times where it explodes on the first knife there is a simple solution...friends *gasp* teamwork, what a concept.

I swear to god if someone plays the 'use teamwork to overcome retarded feature' card one more time I'm going to kill somebody.[R-MOD]octo-crab wrote: Anyways, I've never really had this problem. There is no excuse for this, the simple fact is that it shouldn't be there in the first place.

Well said dtacs, completely agree. It's a mongoloid feature and shouldn't be there. This thread is completely closing my valve.

I am often medic so I make sure I am standing by for some loving after FOB/knife activities.
I guess the answer is one stab and be patient.

Re: FOB splash damage
Of course you can, and I shoot the radio regularly with 14.5 mm/.50 cal and larger vehicle weapons and AT, regular infantry rifles do either zero or so little damage to the radio, that I've never seen them take a FOB down.ludwag wrote:Can you shoot the radio?

This I found funny.Teek wrote:the radio should catch fire after a successful knife to indicate its going to blow up, after all, trucks and APC's do
The Firebase that is fueled by gasoline and catches fire to explode.
I concur with this whole thread, the old knife in the firebase radio seems so dated for Project Reality. I am sure somebody could come up with a superior idea.

we do have a spark effect, maybe that could be used as a damage indicator for the radio

Re: FOB splash damage
Or we could have it this way:
1. Move your squad in the vicinity of the FOB.
2. Kill all the enemies near it.
3. Wait a short moment.
4. FOB collapsing on it's own.
5. ????????
6. PROFIT!
Seriously, I still don't get why it should be knifed at all? Why just not making it collapse automatically when there's enough team 1 guys near it and few enough team 2 guys. This would also deencourage those nasty Rambo-style missions with lonewold sneaking up on yah.

Well why wait a minute? some one behind the 3 guys could just snake up and shoot them why they died? BEcause they waited ONE minute and they didn't chose the other option which is to knife the fucking radio and get out of there
THAT's why I agree to remove the splash damage plz because the NET and the PIPES wouldn't kill you. Not even hurt you !!!!!

Re: FOB splash damage
the real problem has been mentioned is that with the conventional forces FOB you are "inside" the structure. so this isn't a feature so much as something that we dont really have a work around for yet. the only simple solution i can see to this would be to move the radio to the side of the FOB instead of inside it

Re: FOB splash damage
The thing about that is that the conventional FOBs definitely have splash damage. If you have ever been prone outside of a FOB and digging it while it gets destroyed, you take damage. While you can be right on top of an insurgent FOB when it gets destroyed and it wont hurt you.Bringerof_D wrote:the real problem has been mentioned is that with the conventional forces FOB you are "inside" the structure. so this isn't a feature so much as something that we dont really have a work around for yet. the only simple solution i can see to this would be to move the radio to the side of the FOB instead of inside it

Re: FOB splash damage
i think that could be attributed to the fact that while you are shoveling part of your player model is clipping into the model of the FOB. this is based on the fact that it doesn't hurt me every time while i'm shoveling and it goes down. if you go right up to it and shovel it will. but times when i'm a foot or so away i'm perfectly fine, other than the suppression effect you get from all collapsing buildings. prone especially if you've ever watched your buddies shovel it while they are prone, their head and arms are usually inside the dirt moundRELEASE_THE_KRAKEN wrote:The thing about that is that the conventional FOBs definitely have splash damage. Re: FOB splash damage
The splash damage is changed with some version for sure. Back in the older days I used to build FO's by dropping the repair crate first (for faster building) and then shoveling it up. Now it is impossible cause you will bleed to death in a few seconds when you get near to it.
Maybe the model is larger now, dunno, but actually the whole donut could be replaced with something more low profile, like leaving only the box and the radio left.

not everyone is alive after an assault
sometimes you come up on fobs by yourself, especially on insurgency
im tired of fobs hurting me also
