I still have REAL trouble with heavy lag on some of the new maps. I know there are some treads about this issue but I am also writing this because I tried a lot of fixes and read most of the threads and maybe someone can figure out whats wrong because of my hints.
first of all: u can check out my system specs. shouldn't be a problem there. I can play GTA4 and FarCry2 all on ultra and will not drop below 30fps at any time.
I am not talking about modarate fps drops e.g. from 100 to 30-40, I am talking about drops from 100 to less than 2-3 fps wich makes the game not playable.
maps with lag: gaza beach, lashkar valley, fallujah (in 0.9, not tested in 0.91), beirut.
Now what I have noticed:
- game options don't affect the issue very much. If I play lowest settings possible (<800x600 + all on low + 50% sight) fps 100 all the time. when I play 1280x1024 all on high with 8xAA + 100% sight fps is around 100 too, droping to a minimum of 50 when looking in an wide open area + jumping and doing freaky stuff.
- massiv fps-drops (near 0 fps) only happen when the server is populated + one of the maps mentioned above is played. NO fps drops on empty customserver at all !
- fps-drop happens when I look in the direction where most of the players are located. My own position on the map doesn't seem to affect fps very much. even if I look into the citycenter I have around 50 fps if there are no players in this direction.
- fps drops happens even if I don't see the players. even if I am standing with the face to a wall the game begins to stutter when there are players (or maybe vehicles?) located in this direction. If I turn around fps bounces back to normal instantly.
- Fps-drop can be fixed for a few seconds by alt-tabing out of the game and switch back
(indicator for memory or video-memory related issue? btw. I have read the sticky about memory problems but it didn't help)
I had a similar Problem with FarCry2 and have read something about the V-ram overflow after a long time of play. the v-ram is not cleared automatically and so the videocards memory fills up over time depending on the size of the textures. when textures has been set to ultra the stuttering happened after 10-20 minutes. when reducing the textures to "only" high the stuttering happend only after hours (enough for the game to crash because of other reasons
so I hope one of u guys has found the roots of evil in here and can help me play some of these new maps after all that time
