Increase round start timer

Post by Startrekern »

So, as we know, the current timer at the very beginning of the round is currently set at 3:00. This, in patches past, used to be ample time for everyone to load in and get a plan together, but in more recent patches (0.9+) I have noticed that many people, upon loading in, find they only have 30 seconds or less to squad up or make any plans. This often leaves a team who loads slow at a disadvantage.

My request is that the round start timer be increased to at least 4:00, if not 4:30. This should give everyone plenty of time to load in, and really, waiting a minute and a half longer to ensure a better round for everyone isn't that big of a deal.

I agree, more prep time would be good. A round can last for hours, an extra minute and a half could mean the difference between a bad deployment and a good deployment at the start - which then has domino effects throughout the entire round.

might also reduce people loading in before the server has sorted itself out? or is that more hardware then pre-match prep time?

Well, a bit of both. It'd help the slow loaders and would also help in giving a bit of extra time to coordinate. Even if you take a minute and a half to load in, unless you already have a plan in mind it still leaves you with only a minute and a half to hammer out a plan with other SLs, which sometimes can be more complex and require more time than a minute and a half allows ;)

I myself load in before the timer even starts but I see no problem raising the timer abit for the slow loaders among us.

Yeah, a longer timer wouldnt hurt. It would help with organization, and if one team takes longer to load in, it isn't 10vs32 at the beggining

An interesting idea. I have no problems with loading times but it would be nice for does slow comps :) and if it'll help to have an effective deployement early I'm all for it. The question is whether people will just freak out because of the waiting...

5 minutes wouldnt hurt, because majority is still "OMGEZ WAIT UNTIL 1:30 OR GET BANNED AND KICKED AND DIE!" wich means if we still wait for a good minute, we are left with 3+ minutes, wich were designated in the first place.

I likt it, but 5 min is too much. 4 min is ok, another 60 sec will help a lot.

BTW way too often people wait to the last min before creating squads anyway to see if some cool/skillful people are going to lead. This will not solve that problem.
