Intel or AMD?

AMD:

If you want to cut it close at $160 then get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103808

For strictly under $150: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103809

Intel:

Nothing

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDX945WFGMBOX

1. Go Phenom because I doubt a Intel Processor will like a AMD Socket (even if you try a hammer)
2. Because Athlon doesn't have L3 Cache
3. Because I said so.

Also. Any 9xx Series will preform about the same with a slight overclock to match the more expensive versions.

I concur with Fuzzysquirrel and Fighter. Phenom II x4 is the way to go.

The (quad) Q8300 (2.5Ghz baseline) LGA775 Intel is still a very good bang for the buck. Low energy use too.
