The Battlearena Al Basrah II night 15th September (23PRT)

Post by Matrox »

The Battlearena presents an Al Basrah II night!
Wednesday, 15th September, 23:00 PRT (18:00 CDT)

Image

This is a North American event, starting at 18:00CDT.

Al Basrah II is a custom map of the official Project Reality "Al Basrah" map made by [R-DEV]duckhunt.
This is not only a modified map. Even some weapons and vehicles were adjusted for the different Al Basrah II gameplay.
There is a lot more viewdistance but also more cover from modified terrain and vegetation.
See this page for screenshots and changelog.

Server: thebattlearena.com PR .917

No password, no mumble requirement.

To play this unofficial map, you need to download and install this map.
We have created an easy installer, so there is no need to mess with your PR folder.
No original PR content will be modified. It just adds a "albasrah_v2_build41" folder in the levels folder.

Download Al Basrah II here!

If you have any questions, PM me or contact us at The Battle Arena.

Important changes of Al Basrah II:
  • The west FOB have a resupplying heli pad.
  • The viewdistance has been raised by 100m.
  • Terrain and vegetation has been changed alot, so insurgents have more cover.
  • Brits has been replaced with USA.
  • Blufor got a helo again (chinook) and it have a bit more HP.
  • SA7 have been readded and modified. Sadly this one work's only well on SLOW moving targets. But i added it anyway.
  • Boat's added to both sides. US boat respawns all 10 minutes, insurgents boat respawns all 30 minutes.
  • All civilian cars respawn after one hour.
  • INS supply vehicle respawns after 30 minutes
  • Landbridges has been removed so defending the (now stronger) bridges is more important. As a last resort, bluefor can use the west village bridge, as this bridge is indestructible!
  • Some caches were moved, some were added in the new buildings.
  • Stationary m249 have much better short burst accuracy and reduced overheating. This makes it more useful as defensive weapon.
  • Artillery IED is much stronger now. It takes out everything and got a scaring explosion animation + sound.
  • The normal IED can destroy armored vehicles again. To blow up a MBT you need 4 of them. They are almost as strong as they used to be.
  • Bridges are much stronger now. You need two artillery IED's or 4 normal IED's to blow up a bridge segment.
  • Dirtbikes are much stronger now and don't blow up on the first road bump.
  • The buildings in the "slums" got added walls to create smaller rooms.
Additionally, all building parts have been aligned more properly.
  • The so called "gas station" is now really one.
  • The fields got a green ground texture. Now they look much better from far.
  • north and south construcion sites have been replaced with other buildings.
  • Added some buildings around F3, north of the bridge.
  • The insurgent death zone south of the airport is a big bigger. This should prevent helo spawn rape.
  • Death zones around the map edges are smaller. The whole H-column is enterable again.
  • The highway south of gas station got some ramps.
  • H-AT is more responsive.
  • RPG's have 5 rockets now.
  • New grenade launcher pickup kit (similar to the taliban version).
  • Revised pickup kit locations.

CU on the Battlefield! :firing:
If you can find the four ninjas in my post, pm me to find out the prize....

It looks to be pretty balanced. The US get the advantage of agility and speed with the Chinook but view distances are HUGE so its going to be shot down pretty quick. In addition to the armor loadout there are six Humvees at the main which should be pretty interesting (might see some convoys)

The Abrams won't have a problem so long as it stays out in the open desert and doesn't go near the overgrowth or urban areas.

The new changes really add to the teamwork dimension to the insurgency side.

See you in Al Basrah!

Will this map, Al Basrah 2, be installed in the next official version of Project Reality, or is it just a one time map?

Sorry, no hidden things or air vehicles with weapons. :-)

Even with the 100m more viewdistance it isn't so easy to shoot down the chinook (unless you hover somewhere). We tested it very much to make sure there is no big disadvantage with it.

There are 3 50cal humvees and 3 transport humvees.
The 3 transport humvees respawn after 5 minutes to keep up the agility in the worst case.
Having no transport (even for a failing team) is a no-go.

The additional fixed FOB's have one 50cal and one transport humvee, respawning each 30 minutes.

I have no clue or interest in coop. But if someone want to volunteer... ;-)

Although Mumble might be good in some situations, there are a lot of people who don't like it. Unless Mumble is the only VOIP system and really everyone use it exclusively, it can create alot of confusion and annoyance. As Battlearena used to be a server for casual gamers, we don't want to enforce Mumble usage.

Al Basrah II is a community map.
As far as i know, the DEV's have no interest to use anything from Al Basrah II in the official release of PR.

Let me qoute an explanation about PRT time. Use the included link to find out when the event takes place in your country. Select the right time, leave the "convert from" at UTC/GMT and change the "convert to" field to your country. Press "Convert time". That's it ;)

Our server already runs Al Basrah II 24/7. If it's too late for you, you might join earlier this event night and see if there are other european players around. Worth a try around 19:00PRT.

PRT TIME stands for Project Reality Tournament time. PRT TIME is equal to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), also known as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). All times in the tournament are stated in PRT TIME.

Depending on your location in the world, you may have to add or subtract a given number of hours to convert PRT TIME (GMT) to your local time and vice versa. There are many tools available on the internet who can do this for you, for example: time zone converter. Please note: like GMT, PRT TIME does not switch to summer time.
