I was thinking about a way to create a urban map like Ramiel but from the center out. You get some basic terrain and then place a building in the center. Then you work around this biulding and make up nice combat scenarios while adding more statics and buldings, with all areas (or as much as possible) having great opportunities of movement and tactics, like some kind of crosswords, there is a soludion in every way. Aiming for 1km map, like Korengal wich is small but seems big.
How would that work out?

Re: [Idea] Map creation
sounds nice, I'm thinking of some perfect call of duty map with perfect alleys and places to camp and shoot through while also possibillities for moving and flanking everywhere. but remember that while this might work out well in such a fast paced game with such small maps, making this larger with pr gameplay will need a different kind of mapbuilding, you need to keep the big picture in mind or everything'll become a vague mess. also remember pr has vehicles that need space to manouvre and can be either overpowered or too vulnerable depending of the are they are deployed.
this might work out well though for smaller urban areas in larger maps.
I suggest you try it, if you've got the time, in a smaller environment, check out how this works and how long you've been busy.

Re: [Idea] Map creation
Im not making a map, just handed out the idea if someone is making a map and doesnt know what should he do.
And i based this from COD maps bevcause they have rich urban enviroment. (ofcourse wouldnt be near the linearity of COD maps, but in the same manner.)

Why not play around in the map editor and see how it works out? Shouldn't take to long to get your head around it.

Re: [Idea] Map creation
why not a 4k map?
I like teamwork oriented maps, as opposed to CQB oriented maps.

Re: [Idea] Map creation
every mapper works to his own method, and that method has to be found via actually making maps and making mistakes.
Some mappers start with a blank canvas and sculpt everything as they go
Some mappers generate a terrain using advanced methods then conform their static placement to it
Some mappers use a colourmap to guide their staticplacement, either a plan they made themselves or a googlemaps image.
Some mappers hand paint their maps
Some mappers use bf2_tpaint, some use geocontrol, some use terragen etc, some like to do some of the work in photoshop
Some mappers like to use 3dsmax to LM their map, others just use the editor.
Some mappers do their detailmaps, UG and OG together (bf2_tpaint/whatever -> import detailmaps to UG, transfer UG.raw to OG), others do them separately by hand or other method
Each mapper finds his own way
