Maps like Yamallia were what the Army trained to fight for back during the Cold War. When I was in, we trained to repulse Soviets swarming through the Fulda Gap. This is classic Mechanized warfare. I love this map, Silent Eagle being a close second (for AAS).

I'd still love to see Ramiel turned into an AAS map.

well, let me number the positive aspects of yamalia:

1. great tactical enviroment.
2. you can hide ur firebases in trees, so they will not get spotted
3. u have a great lack of defendable positions on the flags
4. u have to cross wide open spaces with high speed, unless u don t want to get shot
5. u can have some intresting trenches firefights
6. apc fights get a lot more intresting, also u can use rush tactics to overrun an enemy position.
7. apcs are now really needed as armored personall carriers
8. the whole map is about hide and seek
9. you can sneek to enemy postion, not like kashan where everyone can see u in the wide desert
10. u need to set up tows on the right positions(u only have 2 per team)
11. finally no other map has a similiar gameplay

im gonna put this just here.
i have pretty powerfull pc but in this map i get lags sometimes when i scope.
also apc`s causes some lag.
but scope lag was maybe 10 minutes but then it was just perfect.

is it some thing in map or is my 1000 euro pc just ****?

and....yamalia is one of the best maps i have ever seen but recently servers dont play it.

I really like Yamalia. The fact that you can't see things just means you should be cautious. I personally like having to keep on my toes, watching every tree carfully. My only problem with it is the amount of lag i usually get on it. Plus atm, i find it impossible to play as Canadians (I get roughly 2 fps when i scope)

With the next patch though i hope the lag will be fixed. If not, there's always ironsights :-P

The point of Yamalia is that, supposedly, canada is moving into russian territory VIA airdrop. Note @ all spawn-in kits have parachutes. It's not that they are fighting for a certain location, but they are fighting for the advance. Note @ alt. game mode for Yamalia is AAD (Advance and Defend). Where if Russia loses a flag, they have to fall back and defend the next one, and cannot re-capture flags. This is simulating Russia defending their territory against an invasion.

And you must be playing it wrong. If it isn't Fun for you, try something else. There are aplenty of Fun secrets on Yamalia that not all players know about ;)

i'd say that yamalia could be a fun map, but it could also one, if not the most craptastic maps in-game.

For me one of the best maps in PR. Replayable as none from the others.

Going completely against the OP, this map is quite realistic and very fun.

Realism:

The terrain is very easy to defend, your positions are concealed, mostly with good fields of fire, and you can hear enemy infantry coming a mile away in the swamps. The small islands are good for deploying fire bases with MG nests etc. which, as you say, are nigh on impossible to take with un-supported infantry, even when held by unsupported infantry.

The wide open spaces mean that you have plenty of choice of where to land a helicopter, vital for reinforcing/resupplying, while the scattered island give lots of cover to hide a HLS behind.

So it's an easily defend-able position, from the flag layout I'd guess the story behind it is a position that once was strategically important, hence all of the trenches etc., but then wasn't, but now, due to the mobile nature of warfare, it suddenly is again as the Canadians try a risky air borne assault and the russians rush to re-occupy the position.

For Fun:

Yamalia has a great range of fighting, long ranged fire fights between islands, or trench fighting in the trenches, where grenades and shotguns are king. Also defending & attacking fortified positions tend to be incredibly fun.

Swamp type fighting isn't really explored in PR, so it's a new terrain type.

Also CnC n Yamalia is awesome.

not fun? i beg to differ...

this one time (at band camp), myself and kossolax (flatmate) had a little 2-man recon team, searchin around, looking for teh shitz. we were taking cover in bushes on one of those small island type mounds (y'know with that lookout tower on). after a few minutes a Canadian jeep came rolling up, fellas running round everywhere, even went up the ladder which was about 6 feet away from us. next thing a chinook came in, dropped off crates and they built a FOB right there. needless to say, although we managed to knife 3 of them, we got muller riced.

i think (in my own humble opinion) that Yamalia is fine. it's realistic and has good elements for squad on squad contacts (even though it's pretty damn big). it just depends on the teams you're playing with i guess.

I find it amazingly dull to play. And would like to see it removed. Don't think I've ever had a fun game on it.

Really? That's just stupid.

Sorry but it is. Maps fine, unless neither team uses teamwork it's great fun.

I would like to see the Yamalia get the Vehicle Warfare makeover. I think it would be a great map for that kind of fighting.
Best line yet...

Yamalia should be a snow map :) And perhaps renamed North Pole Conquest :) With lot less trees and a few polar bears to target practice :P

So is my opinion stupid because I don't agree with you? I think you need to rein your neck in and appreciate people have different options, it's know as taste. I find it dull, nothing you can say can change that, espicially calling my opinion stupid. Which just makes you a tit.
