You can see that he's looking to about 30 degrees, where his marker is somewhere to the NW or he could have hit alt.Nitneuc wrote:I wouldn't be that sure, look at this one : http://imgur.com/nCvbg.jpg, it's the same vehicle involved (Bradley), the minimap proves their is a live marker but it only shows on the compass.
Your pic probably comes from an older beta.

Thats true, but he could have pressed "alt" and dissabled the marker..Nitneuc wrote:I wouldn't be that sure, look at this one : http://imgur.com/nCvbg.jpg, it's the same vehicle involved (Bradley), the minimap proves their is a live marker but it only shows on the compass.

Re: Distance measuring instruments
I like the ideea of no more 3D markers, just like lucky.Boy said, no more "enemy on teh marker"... even if it slows game speed(progress) it promotes better and faster communications.
I find it only fair that the 3D markers should be deleted from the vehicles too... they allready have thermal, no need for pin-point accurate coordonates now.
P.s: Infantry whore here
Edit:

Edit:
Maybe, but the old marker sistem doesn't have that 2nd arrow on the compass, in that picture you can see it.... pressing "alt" button and hiding the 3D markes theory doesn't explain the 2nd arrow on the compass thus making the theory invalid or wrongGosu-Rizzle wrote:Thats true, but he could have pressed "alt" and dissabled the marker..

What? Why wouldnt it explain it? He dissabled the 3D marker by pressing "alt", but the 2D marker stays.. That is a pretty good explanation imo.iAllex wrote: Maybe, but the old marker sistem doesn't have that 2nd arrow on the compass, in that picture you can see it.... pressing "alt" button and hiding the 3D markes theory doesn't explain the 2nd arrow on the compass thus making the theory invalid or wrong![]()

Maybe because i find it usseles to have both markers, 3D and 2D >.> ...Gosu-Rizzle wrote:What? Why wouldnt it explain it? He dissabled the 3D marker by pressing "alt", but the 2D marker stays.. That is a pretty good explanation imo.
I have a theory, maybe the 3D marker only appears when the point of the attack/move/observe/etc. marker is in visual range, or maybe a distance of 50 or less metters... check the other screens.
Personally, i'd like the 3D markers to be removed.

To return to the thread topic, which kits will get range finders?

Squad leaders and snipers for conventional forces have them, and will probably keep themdoop-de-doo wrote:To return to the thread topic, which kits will get range finders?

Not sure about .95. but now SL have the rengefinder (and sniper ofc) in his GLTD.doop-de-doo wrote:To return to the thread topic, which kits will get range finders?
And i cant imagine any other ways do give infantry rangefinder. Might be suprised, though
A little bit OT, but how can the guy in mortar measure the height difference between the mortar and the target?

Re: Distance measuring instruments
Not only range finders and laser sstems can be used to measure distance. I would welcome realistic optics for rifles and vehicle guns...What do you think, why are those little numbers and lines on your sight?
Yes, they are for professional range finding! So mekae it realistic please! (If they aren't already realistic from this aspect)
Reminds me the old role playing games.

I think PR's big success would be motivating players to prepare pen&paper before joining a server!lucky.BOY wrote:And a pen and paper next to computer while manning a mortar![]()

Problem is that their accuracy depends on the screen resolution.Yes, they are for professional range finding! So mekae it realistic please! (If they aren't already realistic from this aspect)

I don't think that applies any longer with 3D scopes in sight (no pun intended).Spec_Operator wrote:Problem is that their accuracy depends on the screen resolution.

On real maps in which a military grid system is used, 100m is 1 grid.

i don't think its possible to implement range finders in scopes like sniper rifle or any other weapons, its a coding problem.
(i could be wrong giving mosquills ability to warp and stretch the BF2 engine)

Re: Distance measuring instruments
I think it a bad idea, yes more realistic but this is still a game.
In real life when looking at something, or telling my specialist to rope up this "marked" building is easier.
In real life, i can point with my arm, i cant do that in PR.
Also the limited types of buildings also gets in the way. Most look alike, but they would be more diverse irl to get the point across while talking with other squad members.
Or when all members have the map open and I explain our assault, i can place markers to tell ppl what we are going to do, like again, pointing with my finger irl.
A compromise would be keep the 3d markers, but remove the range.

Re: Distance measuring instruments
Approximate distance, direction and something unique for the "pointed" thing is enough. I have nothing against removing the 3D markers. I've never liked them anyway.
Besides, you can point with your barrel or a few tracer rounds.
