Most people will shun you if you dont have a mic and try to-
-Crew for armour
-CAS (close air support)
-Squad lead
-command

So none micers are usually stuck to infantry duties. Which is still alot of fun. But no, a mic is not 100% required
Look who's talking :) .

Anyway, I wouldn't explicitely consider a mic a necessity, but it should aid in your enjoyment of the game, and it definitely won't hurt your combat-effectiveness - it's simply faster than typing and whatever you say is more-or-less guaranteed to be heard (I personally don't spend a lot of time watching the chat, so there's a high likelyhood I won't respond to what you type, simply 'cause I haven't noticed you've typed anything at all).

Good luck!

Hey all,

I'm new and just bought BF2 Complete Collection also, and am wondering what are some cheap, quality mics that will work with game.

Keep in mind that I'm running BF2 on Win7 through Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro!

I can't wait to download PR and start playing with you guys, what servers do all of you usually play on?

Thanks,
Sam

If you're a level-headed player and learn the ropes well, you will not be considered a noob; but as mentioned above, certain functions require a mic, specifically Squad leading, using battle vehicles (& attack helis), and infantry that expects to get dirty real fast. Non-battle Transport/logistics vehicle squads aren't always asked to have mics.

Personally I kick non-microphone users. Concidering good communications the most important thing in a squad I find them completely useless if they can't communicate effectively.

So YES, I think it is a necessity.

Your not playing PR without a mic. The one thing i like about this game is the fact that i can just jump into a random game and start teamworking with a serious squad. Not to participate in this teamwork you defiantly need a mic.
