[Fix] Clickable urls in Live Messenger (MSN)

Post by NyteMyre »

For those who still use Live Messenger 2009, they might have noticed that Microsoft turned of clickable URL's in chat conversations because of some internet worm. Something that annoyed me because i usually shared links with friends and to copy paste every link was a drag. So I searched for a fix and found this working one:

(thanks to Harry Scanlan)
1. Download: Freeware Hex Editor XVI32
2. Close Windows Live Messenger
3. Open C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger and make a back-up of msnmgr.exe (in case you break it)
3. Open XVI32 and open msnmgr.exe (not the back up one)
4. Press Ctrl + F, and pick Text string
5. Type in hotlinks in the search box and press OK
6. You'll find hotlinks, change the first letter to a t (making it totlinks).
7. Ctrl + S to save
8. Start Windows Live Messenger and try a link.
