For starters, the Qinling is named the "Battle
for Qinling", not the "Battle
of Qinling", as "the battle of" signifies the battle has been fought, where as "the battle for" signifies the battle is about to begin, or is in progress, much like in Churchill speech just before the Battle of British Began:
'Winston Churchill, 18 June 1940' wrote:The Battle of France is over...the Battle for Britain is about to begin
Qinling is named Qinling because Qinling is a mountain range in China, although the map wasn't based on Qinling the map was in fact just a test map I was making to see if we could get 4km terrain to work, I just liked the terrain so much back then I made it into a full map
Some maps are named after places, where others are just "Operation" names, even if they do not have "Operation" in there titles but even random names don't really need the "operation in them", such as on the D-Day landings, different sections of the coast line where given code names, such as "Gold Beach" just to pick one of them, which is often refereed to as just "Gold". Really you would have to ask the mapper why they picked there names but at the end of the day, its just a name and the names are unlikely to change now the maps have been released. Even Muttrah City technically isn't correct since "Muttrah" on its own, isn't really a City, its the port area of Muscat, which is Oman's capital city. Just when I was making Muttrah v1 (not the current v2) before I could find that much info on the net about Muttrah other than the odd picture, it seemed much like its own City when in fact its not. Even so I haven't changed the name as I've wanted to keep the maps original name
