Hello Everybody,

I'd like to suggest a modification of the current trench statics used in maps such as Kozelsk, Fools Road and Yamalia. I have no idea how important this is for any of you, and I guess it would be just a small ergonomic update of the trenches, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Currently the trenches mostly have equal depth everywhere. I have the impression that it does fluctuate here and there though. I could be wrong about this, but it wouldn't change the suggestion in any way so please keep reading.

Basically this means that if the trench is deep at one point you cant properly stick out to fire, with the sandbags and the wood of the trench wall obstructing you here and there. And the places where a trench is too shallow you don't have proper cover unless you lay down.

Now how about this:

The blue and red measures represent the height of a generic infantry soldier in PR. The red height in the middle is just under the trench wall, while the blue height, just up the little slope is high enough to have his head and gun stick out.

This way, a soldier can move through a trench with great cover if he moves through the middle, both visually and against incoming projectiles. While just up the little slope he can fire standing up, and crouch for cover.

Tell me what you think.

If anyone makes additions to our trench static kit, I would definately like what you describe (basically a firestep right?) implemented.

However right now they are more like walls with dirt attached to the side, the bit underneath is just terrain, and unfortunately terrain can only be modified in a grid format.

This means that you can change the coordinates of every corner of teh square on the grid, which vastly changes your abilities to add small terrain changes like slight rises or falls in a trench which is only going to be between 4 and 2 meters accross generally - Unless the trenches are running North-south/East-west which makes it a bit easier to do things.

So yeah, this suggestion would be good if someone made a new trench static and added static terrain in the middle so all ya gotta do is lower the terrain underneath so it cant be seen.

Trenches are so rarely used its hardly worth the effort. Maybe needs improvement if it becomes an integral part of some maps.

i like the idea alot . .. i agree with you that the trenches need a little bit of an update i like the idea where you dont need to duck to have cover you can still use the trenches standing up for shooting and running . and Trenches ARE used on certian maps depending upon the situation.

the only issues i can see is getting in and out of the trenches with this system .. there would need to be boxes setup every once in a while or ladders because there will be no way to jump over the walls to get out ... and getting in may hurt a bit if you fall into them . . probly not actualy the height of an infantry isnt THAT tall soo it should be fine.

for people who dont understand how trench logic works in PR.

I want more trenches in PR! So yes... I greatly approve!

Besides the new static can always go into a new or updated map!

There should be a dent in the middle yes, nice idea. Also moar trenches, dont we love them! :D

I completely forgot what Rudd said is the case! The current trenches are merely the wall and some ground at the top on both sides. What we're currently walking on is normal terrain.

To solve this, one should make a whole new trench static indeed that has its own floor and implemented fire step. These should replace the current trenches. To make this work with the terrain, you "simply" need to lower the terrain under the trench static to make sure it doesn't clip with the trench static.

And yeah, more trenches! :)

we need some underground cover to save our asses when mortar strike come,s to wipe us.

yes a bit more treches give some good things about PR.

still. i wish we could remove the GUNPOWDER from the sandbags, after all being entrech in something that blows up is,t fun anymore.

Great idea. Would love for some static trenches to be added. I say Added and not Modified because right now the 'trenches' we have aren't trenches. They are more like mass graves.

How about something like the steps on the new fences that allow the player to walk over the edge without using his stamina.

No, on the new fences it works like stairs, i.e. you just walk over like on a ramp.

Lots of options. Ladders would probably look the nicest, maybe some of those wooden ladders.
It would also be nice to not have to jump to get in all the time, which I find to be the case almost every time I try to get in a trench. The lip just comes up a bit too high off of the terrain.

that would be nice I agree, and could be added without changing the objects in the maps
