Sounds hardcoded. And a suggestion.

But anyway, no. There are ways that soldiers communicate IRL that cannot be implememted into PR.

IRL, a military operation would take weeks if not months on preparation and analyzing the terrain via sat/UAV. No military would ever be dumb enough to go into an attack zone without knowing where everything is. This takes a lot of work. Naturally, as a game, PR focuses on gameplay rather than memorizing the maps.
Also, I think IRL, battlefields are a bit bigger than 4km and there are no "out of bounds."
Also, IRL I think "insurgency mode" would end up with all the caches destroyed without more than 10 "ticket losses" and that attack helos can engage at the range of >5km.

Didn't read the thread yet, but I wanted to throw up this link to McLuvs suggestion thread on this topic.

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-pr ... antry.html

Lots of good debate about this topic in that thread.

No map would be devastating to the game. There is already an incredible amount of walking and time in between action, we dont need to walk 15 mins in the wrong direction and not even know it. The ability to get lost is one of the parts of realism that doesnt need to be put in a game because it wont add the possibility of more fun, just more anger.

If the regular squad members had a map but no icons on it then fingers crossed it would encourage Officer kits being used, and promote people being Squad Leaders.

the Squad Leader is the administrator and radio-man of the squad. Being more responsible for navigation would indeed take up more of his time, but in my opinion would make him more important to the squad and as well as that, he isn't the teeth of the squad - the other 5 members are. He's just the dance commander :)

COmpletely removing the map... no way that would work in public servers.

Only thing i would change is that squads dots ln map update only every couple of minutes OR with a function on the radio named sitrep or something, so SL would update squads position.

another point against "no maps" would be the administration.

it is kinda hard in pr to find and identify "Bad Behaviour" for example baserape. if no maps available, you can't just open the map to check out the name of this guy.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end... "
