You should try the Mirage 2000, could use it in the faction of France and Brazil, and the modernized F-5E here is called F-5EM. And the mod AIX 2.0 already exists an F-5E done. But congratulations for what you did!

This is Iranian made F-5 - Azarakhsh,
and he will probably made other version - HESA Saeqeh.

Hey,
I'm still alive and I did some optimization and added some details for the F-5 version. I know the side rudder is missing in these pics, it's masked. i moved the ailerons a bit to show that these parts can be animated. i also removed the unnecessary cockpit details.
most of the smaller parts are unwrapped already.
if some of you guys can help me with some constructive criticism it would be great. especially if you find some details that still could be added.

Looking at the rear on shot your engine exhausts could do with quite a few more edges, right now they are pretty blocky.

Other than that, looking good but still think you need to add much more detail still.

How many tris is it?

~ 3900 tris right now. smoothing the exhaust is just a matter of minutes, just wanted to save some polys there.
I don't really see where you want more detail. It's still a lowpoly model. As you can see in my attachment, the actual aircraft is pretty "naked". Many details could be added with the texture.

Spend your extra tris on smoothing the aircraft ;)

Aim to stay under 8k tris for your lod0.

EDIT: take note of the poly usage on the Harrier for some idea of how much detail you can have on a BF2 jet :)

it's still a shame that such a beautiful harriermodel isn't on any map

It's cool, but jet physics pretty unrealistic. And when you fly you feel yourself like a mole underground thats bird in the sky

They haven't claimed anything, as it is more of a WIP/backburner project.

Just a small update. Smoothed it a bit. I'm still working on the landing gear. Moving parts are lighter coloured.

looking much better :D

Can we have some non-edged frame shots to see how the smoothing looks so far? :)

Also on your tyres, you don't really need that indent you have on them as that slight indent your best doing via a normal map and also you should look into rounding off your wheels more with more chamfers on the sides as right now its not looking very realistic.

Keep up the good work! :)

sure - standard max viewport shader:

edit: as you can see in the picture f5's have a small air intake that closes its shutters at 140mph. would be a nice little feature to add :)

yep, smoothings looking good so far, although looks like you need to smooth your wings up still?

Also you can easily assign a material onto your cockpit glass that is semi transparent in the viewport/renders etc :)

Also for your air intakes, also for your exhausts if you aint done it on them you should look into giving them much more depth via a cone going inwards, which also uses up less tris than having it with a flat end and then the AO/texture arist will do the work on making it so you can't see the ending with just having a really dark shadow in there ;)

sure, I'm still working on the cockpit glass. Still needs some more smoothing.

consider it as done

Ye it would be possible to do that with the landing gear code, same way we do the sweep back wings on the Tornado, although I can't say I like the idea of so many moving parts/draw calls but its still possible. Looks like 7 flaps a side? I don't think we can have that many moving parts when also counting the landing gear and other things... Might be a way of having the flaps open and close without so many moving parts but can't think of any right now.

Another way of doing it (although not as good as having it done via the landing gear method) would be to have the jets lod0 and lod1 possibly too have the shutters open, but having lod2 up having them closed. This would mean when your close to the jet (like on the ground) the shutters would be open but when its far up flying about in the sky they would be closed. Although it would still have them open in close up shot pics when its flying about at high speeds...

EDIT: I think its not worth having that feature unless we can think of a way of having it work with only 1 or 2 moving parts max as otherwise its just too much and the LOD method is pretty crappy.
Need to speak to Mosquill to see if he has any ideas but you can only have landing gear parts rotating around a pivot and I can't say how we can get 14 flaps to open and close with only using 1 or two pivot points...

A small update here, just to show that I'm still alive. Didn't have too much time during the last weeks. Still adding some detail to use all my available tris :)
