Suppression effect for armoured vehicles
Hello
I am wondering if its not possible to add suppresion effect on tank vs tank hits or apc vs apc. After all, the target tank is hit by a 1km/s shell and ,in game, nothing happens except for damage. The hit tank should be "thrown of target"(gunner loose his aim and has to readjust the gun) and the gunner vision should be blurred(maybe the driver too).
I think the only one whos getting supressed properly is the poor infantry.
That would make tank vs tank engagements more exciting and tanks will move more
tactic-wise on the battlefield because the first to fire will have the advantage.

Re: Suppresion effect
it is true, its a bit quiet in there, I dunno how off target it would be, but I think there should certainly be some noise in there, like the tinnitus effect, the percussive effect of a shell is surely pretty nasty in there.

Re: Suppresion effect for armoured vehicles
There is a sound effect but it sometimes fail. It is pretty much scary but nothing beyond that. The sound when Im hit once in a tank with AP rounds reminds me very well that Im one step closer to being dead ( if I dont get killed with one shot that is ).
Im not quite sure if there is difference in sound between being hit by AP and HEAT rounds. But I dont see who will fire on a tank with HEAT rounds, I would not first. To be clear yes HEAT is also AT round but AP is much more effective.
I agree with this in general, tank crew lacks an animation when being hit. Something like maybe blur effect, but not losing your aim. At last that is tank we talk about he cant move its turret so easy even if being hit ( well maybe slightly but it depends how far is your target ). I think blur/shake/sound effect would be nice, but only if being hit by heavy projectiles. Anything less than that is not realistic ( by large I mean 20mm and up - AP rounds ) and lets not make it so APC can completely suppress a tank

I agree, this would also increase infantry vs tanks. Light AT and Heavy AT would supress them. Also things like AT nades, RKG-3, RPGs, SPGs, etc.

Re: Suppresion effect for armoured vehicles
when being pelted with 30mm armour piercing rounds in an IFV/APC the driver's screen flashes red and blurry due to damage indication.
This is a rather frightening effect, and works like suppression. The gunner should experience this too.

The loud sound of the impact is good enough really.Pvt.LHeureux wrote:I agree, this would also increase infantry vs tanks. Light AT and Heavy AT would supress them. Also things like AT nades, RKG-3, RPGs, SPGs, etc.

Re: Suppresion effect for armoured vehicles
This is slightly offtopic, but it would be better if gunner got same damage "flashes" as driver, because
a) Its the best way to know you are being damaged, better then just hearing an exposion.
b) When the vehicle is getting hit, the gunner would experience is the same way a driver.

2:23 2:32 6:45 danger close explosion, turret fire and taking fire - nice effects but Im not sure if this is possible with bf2 engine you need to take that in consideration.

Maybe have the blood effect from getting shot.
After all if your eye was pressed up against the sighting scope and you took a big knock. You would be hurt.
I remember in the old Operation Flashpoint Cold war Crisis (Now Arma Cold war Assault) tank crews got injured after a few hits.

Re: Suppression effect for armoured vehicles
I remember a book about some russian tankers from WWII. There was a part about a firefight somewhere in russia during the first period of blitzkrieg in USSR. They have been shot there by some high caliber gun in their KW-1. Even the projectile bounced off the armor, it still managed to knock the crew unconscious. I bet sitting in a metal can being hit by another piece of metal going with the speed of sound isn't a very neat experience.

The fact that you can die in 2 shots doesn't really mix very well with the fact that you sometimes can't even tell if you've been hit

Re: Suppression effect for armoured vehicles
this, my main reason for supporting is because there are many times where the impact sound and effects do not happen.jerkzilla wrote:The fact that you can die in 2 shots doesn't really mix very well with the fact that you sometimes can't even tell if you've been hit![]()
it'll also create a balance between powerful modern tanks and weaker older tanks. example being the T90s vs Challenger 2s.
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Re: Suppression effect for armoured vehicles
Most of the times I get no sound or visual impact when I'm in an armored vehicle when I'm hit by a tank shell, only the red screen when I'm driver (and that's only sometimes aswell). It bugs pretty often.

Re: Suppression effect for armoured vehicles
The current effect is way too subtle: just a little clank.
It needs a much more louder sound, and perhaps one of better quality as well. That, loud tinnitus and short shake and blur would be perfect to me and add a lot of feel to it, but nothing fancy there really.
Should apply for all AT weapon hits
One problem though: is it possible to have a separate effect inside the vehicle and outside?
