Re: [Map] Kumzar (2km) [WIP]
Thanks ledo,
Yeah it's been in the works for a long time now. Originally, I just wanted to do this as a quick map to learn how to use the editor, but my OCD kicked in and I couldn't help but keep working on it.
I would say 75% of my time has been spent on shaping those mountains by hand, painstakingly inch by inch. No offense to other PR mappers, but I always dislike the unrealistic look of the terrain on some maps. It ends up looking like a big carpet with bumps in it. So, I tried my best to create some realistic looking mountains.(With minimal terrain warping)
And you'll be happy to know that I've made them infantry friendly, you can get to just about any part of the mountains by finding your own path. Read the terrain, plan your route, and your good to go. But, It should be hell trying to climb up to assault a cave complex being defended by Taliban, but the CF have helicopters, so it could turn into a decent to the cave complex, with the Taliban in the weaker position.(down hill) It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, I haven't actually had anybody in the map playing yet.
I'm almost done the terrain work. And once that is finished I'll get started on the textures everybody likes to comment on. Then add some more caches, fix some bugs, and hopefully release a playable version by the end of next week.

Any updates on this map? It looks really promising, it would be shame if all the work would be lost.

Re: [Map] Kumzar (2km) [WIP]
Yeah I don't want to see my many hours wasted by not finishing this map. I haven't touched it in months to be honest, but from what I remember the terrain is pretty much done. I only have to touch up a few areas.
The biggest obstacle from it being finished is the village, there just wasn't enough detail, so I've been half waiting for the new statics to be released in the next update, while still adding more detail with whats currently available.
Also, It looks like I need to go back and remove some of the afghan buildings I've built, since those statics are being phased out of PR. I was hoping some replacements might show up in the next update, but I'm not holding my breath.
I've given some thought to trying to find someone who wants to finish the map for me. But, I just don't think any good mappers will want to spend their time polishing my unfinished map. Besides I've come this far on my own, might as well stick out to the end.
Thanks for the interest, it keeps me motivated

If it's statics that is holding your progress, then contact a Dev. They might help you out in advance.

That village there would be turned into a ghost town after a Jdam - Arty Strike! Gives 100's of possibilaties to hide. Great stuff!
then turn out of the map is good lookin. Keep up the motivation mate!

There was... New IKEA Store Opening in Helmand! - Project Reality Forums (although the pictures on that post seem to be broken.)[R-DEV]Amok@ndy wrote:there will be at least a DEV Blog if those statics are ready
But, it's not the only thing holding me back, so I can keep myself busy until they're released.
