waypoint markers for each squad

Post by Furst »

Hey there,

id like to suggest a small change for squad internal procedures, more precisely, individual waypoint markers for every squad, like the topic already tells.

the "prototype" of the markers that id wish to have are those alphabetical waypoints which the commander can already use at the moment (A B C D E F).

every squadleader would be able to individually set his own waypoints only for his squad. this could be very helpful when it comes to coordination, communication, strategy and miscellaneous other things.

however, these new waypoints should somehow differ from those which the commander can set to prevent confusion.

in addition it should be possible for the SL to set and remove these markers within seconds, not waiting 30 seconds like the commander has to, since it would not be helpful if an ingame briefing would take more time than necessary only because the marker bar has to reload.

i hope i wrote this in an understandable way. if not, feel free to correct me.

So, what you want (or asking) is that could it be possible for a squad leader to place Alphabetical waypoint markers that would be visible to only that squad and squad leader?

yes. exactly this ^. Why is it that hard to understand? I understood it with the first post from the OP.

I understood it, to an extent. The thing is, maybe its the grammar? Some people can't understand something unless its perfect grammar?

Sounds like a great idea, it would be easier for maybe a large squad to map out their assaults and enemy positions

Such a concept might be hard coded but if it were possible would be interesting.

It's definitely possible to do.

Interesting concept indeed! +1 for further exploration of the phenomenon.

Hmmm could be very helpful, I think it would be more used than the actual waypoints as often times the squad leader needs to point out multiple map positions

Another question: Is it possible to add a commander similiar screen also for officers? So they can mark things for the team in the commander style without the need for the distance "calculation"?

Wow, I would bet it's not. That would be cool to coordinate some action on map via waypoints, especially if, let's say, we will be able to have 8 men squads. :)

i was also very sceptical, thats why i asked first before suggesting something which isnt even possible.

Good idea. Wouldnt hurt. Squad level waypoints could mark many things, Rally points, LZs, crates, etc.

What i had in mind when i read the title, was that the (3D) markers could be set as waypoints, like in some RTS games, where you can connect the dots, make a path. Probably hardcoded though.

I would be interested to see this discussed a little more.
Also It would be good to know if these waypoint markers could also be 3D markers as visual aids for navigation.

Yeah I remember this suggestion, need this in-game.

Also Rivers, I say no, the HUD could become really cluttered. And imagine marking all the known enemy positions with 3D elements, it would be too gamy and to be honest, quite unrealistic.

I was referring to just the directional waypoint markers to be in the 3D environment, plus, you could make them visible at say
200m range perhaps

People are still struggling to remember that they can actually place markers on the map, so I don't know how much they'll be used. Don't get me wrong; the suggestion is good, it's just that it might not be worth it.

As an SL who sometimes needs to divide his squad into sections or CAS spotters/laser designators who have several targets for his buddies to assault, waypoints would be a great improvement.
