It feels like a smart *** contest rather then discussion of the new implementation
Anyway, can you imagine how good it will feel that none of your squad members sticking out their heads just to take a look at that infamous AR down the street.
Usually right now it ends up in two death before the squad realize that it would be unwise to pop up unless they want to be "Almost headless Nick" from Harry Potter
Central Asian Treaty Alliance [CATA] - Campaign 9 "The only thing neccesary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing"
How about rifleman scoped loses his binocs bur iron sight does not. Also the rifleman specialist could have binoculars. But i really don't care that much if i'm going to be playing without binoculars. That way sneaking up on enemies becomes easier. Also we will have to wait to see how it plays out.
In reality, not every soldier is issued with binoculars.
But in reality, you can focus on things much, much further away.
I've always thought that using ironsights on any weapon should give you like a 1.2 zoom, with the edges of the screen blurred, much like the Russian PKM.

The PKM blur is a bit extreme for iron sights, because it zooms like a 4x scope
Chuva_RD : You want to remove bugged thing but dont tell how to fill formed void.
I welcome the change. You could easily see an enemy without binoculars, and plus getting out the binocs, getting up from your position, zooming in, zooming out, proning, changing weapon, aiming, fire isn't smart.
The enemy would see you first of all. As a member of the squad, you meant to cover all surroundings, from north to west for each player. You get a defending role to make sure an enemy, for example, in kokan, doesn't cross a bridge where your team is doing other roles and firing at different positions all while you are together as a team.
Taking out your binoculars exposes yourself, punishes you from shooting when you see the enemy is 50 m away from you and you risk your team getting taken out because you didn't cover a position that you were assigned to, and the enemy saw you and flanked your position to take out your team.
Rather, if you take your gun out, look in your sights and use your brain when the team calls out contacts and think where the enemy might be next, and decide if firing would expose you or suppress the enemy or kill them you will have a fighting change of killing that enemy and having more fun.
I hate looking at the binoculars. Only Squad Leader, Sniper and Medic should have it (For seeing down allies to revive on a hilly map with distance like Iron Eagle).
Trust me, I welcome the change. Nowadays, after playing the game for so long, I rarely use binoculars and I tend to follow my squad leader. All these changes encourage teamwork and reduces lone-wolfing with the binoculars.
If you look through Iron Sights, you don't zoom in real-life. But if you have mumble, know how to use it, and work with your squad and other squad in a simultaneous communications network, it would be much easier to know where enemies are.
Of-course, if your SL wasn't calling out contacts or communicating, then you might pick up his kit or other kits and use them. It balances things out.

THESE CHANGES WILL RUIN THE MOD!! I CAN TELL, BECAUSE I HAVEN'T PLAYED THE NEW VERSION YET!!!
Oh, if we got a nickel for every time someone said that . Don't worry about it, there are still kits that have their binocs. It really is an improvement. Might have to get used to it at first, but I'm sure most of you will appreciate it. And the ones that don't, just grab a kit that has binocs... Or play as Insurgents or something
Played PR when we had no binocs, back then I didn't even think to wanting them. And honestly, I would love to see anyone here who could spot an camouflaged soldier at 350+ meters. Or shoot at the motherfucker with ironsights. Cause that shit is actually hard, so its not that "unrealistic" that you can't see every damn breathing thing moving about.

Im glad to hear that, but....
This is horrible Im going to stop playing PR and everything else because of this... see you made me cry XDXD
This change is so much win that all the haters should leave the thread. Shit will get personal, and no more, take my binocs out, align, switch to rifle, shoot at the pixel bs.
Not sure if it will fix the noobs from using binocs to stare at the tank, they might stare without binocs now.
I like it and am all for it. Insurgents are going to have bit of a harder time than usual without scopes, but it will force them to play more sneaky, especially the RPGs.
Might it be considered to let civvies keep there binos, just to make them more useful?
RPGs and MGs will probably be accompanied by civvies more often, reviving them and helping them up places.

This is so true .A man from 200m meteres looks really small even if standing up.The only problem with pr view is the limited area you can see, and the view distance.Do you guys think in RL would be easy to spot a soldier 1 km away from you with his uniform ?
Also different times different equipment - regarding Nam and Normandy

OK AT THIS POINT WE WOULD SETTLE FOR....EVERY SOLDIER GETS AND EXTRA PATCH AND A "MONOCULAR"
No i do play there but not often. I've decided to just give my entire squad except the medic and AR a duplicated officer kit and call my squad "MR MAGOO FREE"

Reason:tidying up
The FOV is PR, is about 90 degrees(at least 80 I think). Your screen does not take up 90 degrees of your actual FOV.
Thus, everything in project reality, is inherently zoomed out, which is why arma 2 has the native zoom implemented. To actually see things properly an ability to dynamically change FOV with a key would be necessary, which is what a scope, or binoculars end up doing. Without binoculars bushes at 100m end up looking like men, and things get lost in your sights. The scope on most weapons helps rectify this, and the ability to have a scope on all rifles for conventionals would be nice, and get around this issue, actually. However, for unconventionals, this would put them at a larger disadvantage than they already are, which would change some balanced maps, perhaps for the worse, too much so.
I dont support having absolutely no zoom, when things are already zoomed out inherently, as they are now, a "zoom" is actually just returning the FOV to what it natively should be. If you gave everyone binoculars, that were a 2 times, rather than the huge zoom they presently have, that would make the game playable. I will try and formally prove this, later. I will also try and reason as to why having no zoom ability is bad which is quite important.
Also, why the hell would players get more patches xambone? Though I do think a monocular, with a three times or so is a very reasonable suggestion. I question the "unrealism" of that if theyre given to unconventional factions proper, their kit loadouts are not particularly standardized, nor is their training.
oh, and, yes falklands and vietnam have no binoculars, so I certainly have played the game with these changes.
